I am a nose job away from quitting nursing school. I've been fickle minded on this decision for weeks. I want to help people but i dont want to get through all the bs my uni's college is boiling down on me. I took nursing school for premed only and for an undergrad patient contact experience to get through med school.

Any advice on which major should I switch to? Or should I just stay? I have the drive for nursing but when i think of all the remaining 3 more years i think im going to crack anytime soon.

If you’re certain that nursing is not for you, then you should probably transfer out of nursing now. The first 1-2 years of nursing school are nothing compared to the clinical portion - it’s difficult for those of us that are absolutely certain that we’re supposed to be nurses, so I imagine that it’s going to be very difficult for you to make it through that part unless it is what you really want to do.

Also, nursing curriculum is not comparable to the classes you will need for medical school. There is some basic sciences like chemistry and anatomy and physiology, but pre-medical students often have to take much more advanced courses. Most nursing programs don’t require physics, advanced chemistry, or advanced biology, for example. You would still have to take these courses once you finish the nursing degree.

If you decide to transfer out of nursing, you should transfer into a degree that you are really interested in. This ensures that (a) you really enjoy your baccalaureate degree, (b) you have a back-up plan in case medical school doesn’t work out, and (c) that you’re likely to do well in your courses, which will help when you apply to medical school. The sky is the limit. You really could major in anything, as long as you also complete the prerequisites for medical school.

Thanks for the response! The nursing program I am enrolled right now offer courses on Anatomy and Physiology, inorganic and organic chem, biochem, and microbiology in my 2nd year. I am also doing Physics this summer term.

What inspired me to take the nursing program as a premed is the early patient care which could prepare me for med school. However i didnt expect it to be like this such as making NCPs, drug therapeutic records, and physical assessments every clinicals. Should I stay in Nursing for the 2nd year term we would be dealing with pregnant people and babies in both of our university hospitals and communities.

Anybody who can help me what to expect if I major in Biology?

Another question: what are the pre-requisites for med school?

I am also thinking of switching to vet school instead.
