Wardrobe Update: College!

I want to update my wardrobe for when I go to college this fall (moving out in June). I’ll be 18, so I don’t want 15 pairs of dress pants or anything. Also, I live in Texas. HOT summers and reasonably cold winters. All 4 seasons. What should I get?? How many? I’ll also be living in an apartment, so no tiny dorm room, I can take whatever I want.

What did you wear in high school? Typically, college culture fashion is whatever is comfortable and will keep you cool/warm. With the exception of über-preppy schools, you’ll find a lot of people in sweat pants, yoga pants, t-shirts, hoodies, etc. I don’t think you really need to update your wardrobe - whatever you wore in high school will be fine for college.

^Yes. Contrary to contrary belief (a belief which I held before beginning college), fashion doesn’t really change, and most people aren’t going to class all dressed up. I had planned to up my wardrobe since it hardly existed to begin with, but I don’t really have the money…so t-shirts and jeans it is! Oh well, that’s what I’m comfortable in anyway.

Provided u have plenty of extra socks & underwear u can really stretch the period btwn laundry loads…

Just leave you high school logo clothes at home.

A quick look in my drawers/ closet says ~5 jeans (2 skinny, 1 slim, 1 straight, 1 junky one for dirty work), 3 sweaters, a couple long sleeve shirts, 1 hoodie, ~7 tee shirts, 1 cardigan, 5 pairs of shorts, and some formal wear for ceremonies and interviews.

Plus running shoes, walking shoes, rain boots, and working boots. A couple jackets for the varying weather.

Remember, the more you pack, the more you have to move and unpack and organize and wash.

You basically wear what you wore in high school. I would take lost of scarves, hats and gloves as those are easily lost but highly needed to walk around campus.

You should also have

Rain boots
Snow boots (Tims or something similar)
Warm boots

Running sneakers
Casual sneaker (I don’t have any, I actually use toms)
Working sneakers (if needed)

You should also take a few pairs of dress pants and button up shirts, at least 1 blazer and cardigans. Everything else is what you’ve had. No one knows what you’ll realistically wear but you. Personally, I don’t wear a lot of jeans- I’m not a fan, so I have like 3 pairs but then I have like 20 pairs of sweats/yoga pants and leggings.

Make sure you don’t overpack because it will not be fun to pack it all back and trust me you won’t even wear a lot of it!

Ok so basically this semester I brought:
3 pairs of jeans (all in different washes)
3 pairs of yoga pants for class and gym (1 black, 2 patterned)
5 pairs of shorts
About 25 casual tops (short-sleeve, long-sleeve)
3 zip-up jackets
1 black cardigan
2 pairs of sandals
1 pair of converse
1 pair of gym shoes
1 pair of boots
1 leather jacket
1 summer dress
1 evening dress

This has been working really well for me and I hardly ever wear the same outfit twice (my school is really into fashion lol). It’s also so much easier to manage. Good luck
