We were hit by a major (by Ohio standards) storm yesterday. I am looking at 15 inches of snow, and it sleeted almost all night. Poor husband is in DC attempting to get home. The next two days temperatures will be falling into the negatives. How do you folks in the far North live with this?

Mine' still stranded in Cincy! Ah, the quintessential college experience!

mine used to be stranded in portland
She takes the train occasionally that comes up from San diego, and last year I think at Thanksgiving it had to stop and get visual confirmation at every crossing, made it really late . She was supposed to take it at 4pm but it didn't arrive till the next morning.
Considering that Portland is only a few hours away, I could have driven down and back before then!

I am in Cincinnati. Apparently they have run out of de-icing liquid, because trucks were not able to get through last night. Only one runway is open right now. The interstates are starting to open up, but only emergency vehicles are supposed to be on the road. Your daughter should be able to get out by tomorrow at the latest. Was she able to get a hotel room? I hope someone befriends her. Tell her to have a four way or a Coney to stay warm. What a way to spend break, eh? They are calling for -6 and a high of 11 on Christmas, brrr.

We are waiting to hear from her again, but a friend in the area found another friend who lives 5 minutes from the airport and will rescue her if she is stuck there tonight. Last night she got there too late from Hartford to get a hotel room so she slept at the airport with the blanket and pillow Delta gave her. I hope she gets out tonight, I haven't seen her since August.

I shudder at the thought of so much snow and chant, "There but for the grace of God . . ." Snowstorms is one of the reasons why I insist on flying our S home from on a non-stop flight from Cali during the winter. Fortunately, too, he came home on the 15th, and we aren't traveling. I did fly into Logan (back in the 70s) during a winter storm and landed after 45 minutes of circling, free drinks from the attendants, and a headwind on the only runway open. The only option was to land in Baltimore and get put on a bus! We gave the ****pit crew an ovation upon touching down.

Wow! I didn't realize that the word would get asterisked! I was referring to the part of the cabin that's immediately next to the nose of a plane, not an unmentionable.

Little Mother
I thought it had just happened to me! Awhile ago I posted on another thread and mentioned "ordering expensive ****tails in a bar" (I added those asterisks, myself, just now lol).

To keep on topic: My daugher is flying home tomorrow night from NY and still hasn't seen snow and the funny part is we may have a small snow flurry here in Texas tomorrow (sorry but I'm really excited!).

I had CC's system give me the asterisks when I mentioned that the art museum's collection at Smith included works by P!ssaro.

A pain in the asterisks if you ask me.

On the flip side, how can anyone study in a warm climate? In my 4 undergraduate and 2 graduate years, I earned lower grades in the spring semester than in the fall semester and higher grades in the spring semester only once. If I were in a warm climate, the spring semester would have been even more difficult (since the warm weather would begin sooner), and the warm weather of the fall would extend deeper into the semester.

Little Mother: What a trip! Someone was watching over you all.
Mini: Glad your daughter has friends of friends close by. Midwest nice kicks in during these situations, and I appreciate it so much. Makes me ashamed of my grousing about the Midwest. My neighbor just came over with his two big boys to clear my driveway. My son helped, and they had a good time. I know your heart aches for that girl. Give her a huge hug from the CC community when you get her back.

Some of those warm weather schools weren't looking too good earlier this year. We were very glad my niece did not choose Tulane when they were evacuating New Orleans. Some of the Florida schools were pretty scary also with all the hurricanes. Give me a few feet of snow any day! :)

Well, my son just loved the "extra" vacation he got when they evacuted the Tulane kids.

Mini, let us know when your D gets home! I keep thinking about her stuck in the airport!

It is now believed that Mini D. is in the air (or at least her plane is) and due to land in Seattle at 8:51. Wife has now moved away from the telephone for the first time today.

Good to hear! Well let us know when she lands so I can stop worrying! :)

I got asterisked (is that a word?) for writing about the pesky brown bug which loves the warm weather of Louisiana, the ****roach.
WARM WEATHER RULES :)

It is midnight, and Mini D. has just arrived at home! (little worse for wear) Her luggage is probably half way to Bulgaria.

Bulgaria? <checks tsoa="" manifest=""> That's funny...it was supposed to go to Finland!</checks>

mini
so glad she is home, and sorry about the luggage. carry on next time

dtd she get inspired?
