Have you looked at Missouri S and T?
We visited and my daughter loved it. It is on the list, she is waiting for all scholarship offers to come in before making a decision. Also Mississippi State has a really good Engineering program.

which is possible after we finish off my grandfather’s estate

So, does that mean that your parents’ assets are going to soon be a lot larger? If so, that will change your EFC.

Have your parents said that they’ll spend some of the estate on college?

Ask your parents how much they’ll spend each year regardless of the estate. '

And run the NPC with the estate as an asset…because at some point you’ll have to declare those assets and your EFC will change.

Did you already apply to Berkeley? If not, it’s too late.

What are your stats?

Firstly, I’m a junior, so I’ve got a year. No, they haven’t said anything about the money we’d get from the house and antique sales, but I presume that part of it (however small) would go into college, split between my sister and I I’ve got 3.55 UW, 3.8 UC W, 4.2 W, 36 ACT, and too many subject tests to count.

Mizzou, Rice, UMiami, Clemson, and UF all look pretty good. I’ll look into them further.

Once your family gets the proceeds from the house and antiques, your family’s EFC will rise with those assets.

Your UW GPA may be a problem for Rice. You probably would get merit from some of the others.

What was your PSAT?

You might look at USC. They love high test scores.

Cal poly has an exceptionally strong engineering dept (quite selective relative to the school at large), and values high test scores (no essays!). San Luis Obispo is a fun college town, not too far from the beach. Winters are mild though not balmy. Lots of access to internships and excellent job placement for engineers.

Does SLO do WUI, by any chance?

If you’re referring to WUE, no. You can see the list of WUE schools here.

Spelling…ow. Whatevs, the money should appear somewhere. Thank you everyone who answered. I will certainly consider Viterbi and SLO.

You’ll be full fee at Berkeley-assume $50K+. The state has no money so they will accept you but you’ll be full pay. They try to reserve Merit monies for in-state students.

I take it’s the same for SLO/Pomona?

Yes. They’ll expect you to pay over $30,000 a year. I wouldn’t choose Pomona over U Arizona or ASU’s engineering.
