Warren College Honors Program

Has anyone else gotten this/know anything about it?

I got an e-mail that said:

Dear new Warren College Honors Students,

This is just a reminder that the application deadline for the Scholars Seminar is fast approaching. If you have already sent your materials, please disregard this email.

The deadline to apply for the Scholars Seminar WARR 11A and 11B) is May 25. Available only to Honors students with demonstrated writing ability, the Scholars Seminar is a two quarter sequential course that replaces the Warren College writing requirement (10A and 10B). Taught by Dr. Madeleine Picciotto, this course sequence gives students the opportunity to develop critical thinking and writing skills in an interactive, seminar style setting. The course is limited to no more than 20 students, though usually only 16 or 17 are selected. The theme for 2007-2008 is “Truth and Beauty”. All readings, writing assignments, and guest speakers will relate to this general theme. The course is designed to be challenging, providing opportunities for students to engage in rigorous debate across a range of topics. Undergraduate student assistants, selected carefully from those students who have completed the Scholars Seminar, facilitate small group discussion and provide additional feedback on writing assignments. For more information, please visit the course website at http://members.dslextreme.com/users/madpicciotto/.

You are invited to apply for this course sequence. This is a one-time offer. If you do not apply this year, you will not be allowed to apply at any other time and you will be required to complete the 10A-B writing sequence. In order to apply, please fill out the attached form and send it with a brief statement of intent and a graded writing sample to me. The writing sample must be an example of academic writing. Creative writing samples will not be considered. Samples may be copied or faxed to me. Notification of selection will be sent by June 30.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Gretchen

But I didn't think that I qualified for this? So, does getting this e-mail mean that I qualified? I'm very confused and not sure what to do or send to them because I don't know if I'm even in the program. I could definitely use some help!

I would advise against taking WARR 11A-B, unless you have a penchant for seminars and composition. (Assignments are long & exhausting)

Really? That sounds discouraging. Well, I might not be accepted into the program, so I'm not really sure what to expect. Does anyone know how many people apply and/or accepted?

Definitely take Warr 11A-B. I did and I cannot recommend it enough. It's a great class, although in past years it has sucked because it's been taught by TAs. However, it's been restructed and now it's great. Plus, 10A-B (Warren Writing) is awful.
