Warwick (Coventry, UK) or McGill (Montreal, Canada) ?

I hope this is the right place!

I have to make a decision very soon.

Here are my choices :

McGill University (Bachelor of Commerce)

Warwick University (Bsc Economics)

Which one is more prestigious ? better employment prospects ?
Which one is the most internationally known ?
Please note I speak French and would like to work in the US.

Cheers!

I have heard of McGill several times, and I KNOW it’s one of the best universities in Canada.
McGill has one of the best medical and engineering programs in Canada - and perhaps in the world - also aviation law (?)

I hope that helps

As you’ve said you want to work in the US, id say McGill. Warwick certainly is prestigious and internationally known (especially for maths/econ) but consider most Americans dont know anything about foreign schools. If however you’d rather work in Europe/Asia id say they were pretty even.

The two are completely different in terms of location and campus. Warwick is an ugly 60s-style campus in the middle of nowhere and McGill is in a big cosmopolitan city. Which would you prefer?

Explained this way, McGill seems better. But it seems like this is a subjective point of view.

There you have it, cesaire. Looks like you’re going to McGill for your commerce degree.

I do know this - what about Commerce ?

I think McGill is also good for business…
Maybe you can check the ranks online?

Anyway, McGill is near a cosmopolitan city. It has beautiful campus, one of the best besides UBC :)

I haven’t heard of Warwick and I don’t think it’s well known at all in the US. Mcgill on the other hand is quite prestigious in Canada and the US

^I agree, Powa2.

Warwick is higher than Mcgill in business school rankings, but if your intention is in the US, Mcgill is your best bet. I don’t think that US people know much about UK universities besides Cambridge and Oxford,.

A BCom and a Bsc Economics follow very different curricula and offer different employment/grad school prospects. Keep that in mind when choosing your program.

Really ? I thought a Bsc Econ and Bcom would offer the same employment prospects
Bsc Econ is probably better for the UK

haha. I hadn’t heard of McGill before this! Warwick is pretty good but since you want to work in the US and all that I suggest you go to McGill since apparently it seems to be pretty good!

So - conclusion ?

We already gave you our opinions on the matter.

It’s up to you to reach a conclusion with what we’ve told you. It’s your future, your choice after all.

Most posters leaned towards Mcgill, though. What do you think?

I’d go for Warwick actually. You’ll also save one year I think!

Warwick is excellent for economics and is very highly regarded in the UK, but I think if you intend to work in the US then McGill may be the better choice. Personally I much prefer the cosmopolitan feel of McGill, but that’s just my opinion.

yes, Warwick is really great for a job in London, which is something I think I would like to do (live in London)
However, I feel the same for the US but I have heard quite different things about McGill’s rep in the US - from excellent to “do not go there, its management faculty sucks”
