was anyone not asked to send midyear reports (especially if you have high scores)?

I was asked with a 2.82 (approx. 3.2 weighted) and a 2,140 with TONS of outstanding extracurriculars and accomplishments. I’m hoping that this is because they’re thinking of accepting me if they see my grades improve!

My question is a bit different: Excluding early scholarship acceptances, in previous years, has anyone ever been accepted with less than super-fantastic (but still okay) stats WITHOUT a specific mid-year grades request?

It would seem that for those with just “normal” stats (by USC standards), a senior grades request is better than no senior grades request, but I hope I’m wrong.

I have not been asked for a mid-year report.
GPA 3.7 SAT 2160

USC weights GPA and SAT kind of the same so if you have a high GPA it will make up for you less than stellar SAT and vice versa. 34 days until April 1st AHHHHHHH!

tywish - where are you getting that information? I really hope that’s at least partially true… my UW GPA is around 3.4 but my SAT is 2090 and my ACT is 31. :/

From what I understand, they do not ask from everyone. As they have already made some decisions, those students need to only provide final grades as I understand.

Okay, so I called Admissions today because we have been unable to connect to USC Connect. After getting this fixed, I asked about the mid year report. She said they do not required it, nor do they request it from all applicants. If they had wanted it from you, they would have already requested it. You can submit the info online.

My S was not asked for his mid-year report. He has a 2160 SAT, 4.3 WGPA, will have completed 10 AP classes plus two college level math classes. His father is a faculty member.

@dreamupsided0wn- I have a long line of family mambers who have gone to USC so we pretty much know who the application process works. Best of Luck!

I wasn’t asked for it, I got the later saying “sometimes we ask” which was about the not qualifying for high scholarships…I have a 31 ACT 3.84 and a 4.27 7th semester, really good ec’s/essays/recs

D was asked in an email, not a letter.

I was asked for my mid-year before the semester was even finished. I did submit them as soon as I got them. I am not going to post my stats because they are the lowest you will probably see on this thread. My GPA unweighted is 3.5. I just assumed they asked everyone for their mid-year grades until I investigated a little on their website today. I was originally notified on the portal that they wanted “secondary school report”.

To be honest with you though, I have been told by everyone, (even my school counselor( that I didn’t have a chance of being accepted at USC. I decided to try anyway because I truly believe a well-written essay can explain lower standardized tests scores. I probably won’t get accepted, but it sure has been great trying. I would never know and always wonder if I did not reach for that gold standard.

I wish you all a lot of luck and I hope I see you on campus in the fall.

Here is the information about mid-year grades that I got off of the portal website.

"We find that an applicant’s mid-year, senior-year grades can help us make better admission decisions. These grades can show how applicants handle some of the most challenging courses of their high school career, or they can further illustrate emerging trends in overall performance.

We often request mid-year grades in January and February. We will need a quick response. You may submit them (even if we haven’t requested them) to: http://www.usc.edu/midyeargrades</a>

If you choose to mail them, be sure to write “Mid Year Report” on the envelope to ensure speedy handling."

I should say that I was asked to submit mid-year grades by the portal, and I did so. I made a mistake when referencing the “secondary school report”, which is the letter of recommendation report. My document status says they have received both reports.

It appears they either ask for mid-year reports by mail, email, of portal if they need them for decision making purposes.

i was asked for mid years
stats at a glance:
low gpa, high test scores, good ec’s, a lot of volunteer hours, good recommendation

I was not asked to send my senior grade with a UW GPA of 3.33, though I submitted it anyways (to my advantage at least). Am I that bad that no senior grade could save me from being rejected?

@ tornados - my GPA is slightly lower than yours, so don’t worry. :P

I’m glad there are others on here with low GPAs… we should have an “underqualified for SC” thread.

dreamupsided0wn, thanks for letting me know that. It helps. I still feel like I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting in. Without listing them, my SAT’s are lower than any you have ever heard before (think my combination a little more than one of yours…), but it is due to extenuating circumstances which I explained in an essay. My chances…abysmal. My chances at success if I was admitted…extraordinary, because I have the drive/intelligence to succeed. Having said that, do I think I am going to be admitted? Pfffffftttt, not even…but I have applied to four great schools and love them all. I just had to take the chance. I have been accepted at my lowest choice so far and would still be happy to go there. It would be an honor to be accepted at USC though.

Dream…I totally agree about the “underqualified for USC” thread! lol, We could have a contest to see who has the worst stats, but wait…I know I would win that one.

My D was asked to send in her grades and she had already sent them in weeks earlier.

oh, and according to the portal they had already received them, but she sent them anyway.
