Im a senior in hs and applying for college in the Fall. I am aiming more towards CSU’s and i want to know what CSU’s are the easiest to get into…Can anyone help me???
What’s your budget? Your GPA? Have you taken any honors classes? Will you need remedial classes?
Csula, Dominguez Hills, San Bernardino, San Marcos, channel islands, Monterey Bay, Humboldt are all relatively easy to get into.
However, graduation rated are low.
Are you allowed to apply outside of California?
Check this list for the non-impacted campuses for 2016-17. The general answer is that non-impacted campuses will only require you to meet the minimum CSU standard for admission. Looks like there are six to choose from. If you want to apply to a specific major that’s impacted, though, that could change things.
Well, the major i choose is Nursing @oneofthosemoms
That puts a different spin on things, given that all CSU nursing programs are impacted. I see you have a thread going for that, so hopefully you’ll get the info you seek. Good luck!
The easiest CSU to get into would be your local in-service area CSU which gives you priority. What is your local CSU?

Below is a list of non-impacted and impacted campuses. In general, the non-impacted campuses would be the easier admit except for Nursing which is impacted at all CSU’s. What is your budget? Will you have to commute from home or will you be able to afford to live on-campus some distance from your home?
http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impaction-campus-info.shtml
Below is a link for the impacted campus and majors for each CSU: http://www.paly.net/sites/default/files/csu%20impactedprogramsmatrix%2015.pdf
Nursing is super hard everywhere… Highly impacted. I agree your best bet your local csu.
What are your stats? Do you know how to calculate your index?
@MYOS1634: OP has posted a 3.64 CSU GPA and ACT of 16 on another thread. Waiting on June SAT scores.
OK, then, test optional schools may be the way to go !
@almaa_card123: On all the threads you have started about Nursing majors, you have yet to state what kind of budget you have to work with in applying for colleges? It would be very helpful, then posters could offer alternatives to just CSU’s and UC’s for a nursing major. University of San Francisco and Azusa Pacific have been mentioned along with Arizona State, are these affordable? Are you in need of financial aid?
I think your ACT of 16 is very telling. I’ve been watching how much information @Gumbymom has graciously provided for you and has held your hand, patiently repeating the same information on each thread, that you don’t seem to be grasping. Are you an international candidate who doesn’t have a guidance counselor?
The nursing discipline is very competitive in California, and even students with better than two times your ACT score, and higher GPA’s, can’t get in to their desired schools. College education is rapid, heavy on information and is self-driven. It is also very expensive if you don’t qualify for financial aid.
You don’t get “do-overs”; the professors don’t have the time to continuously repeat the information to you.
At the UC’s you have 10 weeks to get through materials that you get through in one year of high school.
The Cal states do it in 16 weeks.
Now, you’re asking which are the easiest Cal States: to gain admission? to graduate? to navigate? to get coursework? Each school, no matter where, will expect a certain level of performance.
The budget i have to work with is about $25,000. i dont know if i would get a lot of financial aid because my dad earns around $110,000 or $120,000 a year, I’m not exactly sure how much he makes per year. He’s the only one that works and there are 6 people, including me, in my household. @Gumbymom @MYOS1634 My CSU GPA that my high school gave me is a 3.643 . My Unweighted GPA is a 3.4 . And yes, i have taken honors classes. Im not sure if i will need remedial classes yet and i would like to apply in California. I wouldn’t like to go to school and live in another state. My school gave me a list of the LA Local Area Service CSU’s and they are CSULA, CSU Northridge, CSU Dominguez Hills, and CSU Channel Islands. I think i will be able to live on campus because i talked to my parents and they said that if thats what i really want to do, then i can. I would have to look at each school’s cost thought and see if it dousing exceed my budget, which is about $25,000. I would also like to apply for loans as well as FA. I also heard about something called a Cal Grant and I’m planning to look into that.
I have a guidance counselor. I have been a California resident since i was born. I don’t know why i wasn’t able to grasp the information but i understand it now. If you didn’t know this, July is the summer. School is out. I cannot communicate with my counselor because of that. Also, I’m trying to get all of this information so that in October, i won’t be struggling as much. Im trying to be responsible. And to answer your question, my question was which Cal States are the easiest to get admitted to as an Undergrad Freshman. @“aunt bea”
If your Dad makes that much, you would not be eligible for a Cal Grant.
http://www.csac.ca.gov/facts/2017-18_income_and_asset_ceilings.pdf
$25K/year would cover the cost of the CSU’s including living on campus. Also, there is only 1 CSU that is considered in your local service area, check the link:
http://www.calstate.edu/sas/onestopkiosk/documents/CSULocalAdmission-ServiceAreas.pdf
You need to figure out you family’s estimated contribution (EFC). Then run the net price calculator for all your schools of interest.
Right now your test scores are a huge stumbling block as a Nursing major. You need to get those scores up to increase your chances.
You also need to fill out the FASFA so you can get students loans. As a Freshman, you would be eligible for $5500 which could be added to what your parents are willing to pay.
Limiting yourself to CA, will make nursing school difficult. You will need to cast a wider net.
Community college is always a great option in California with the articulation agreements for the CSU’s and UC’s. The challenge will be to get the nursing pre-req classes at the CCC’s which are also impacted.
Although you want to stay in-state, you should check out the WUE (Western Undergrad Exchange) where you get reduced OOS tuition for the listed colleges. Some Nursing programs may be exempt but check each school out that interests you.
@auntbea @gumbymom : what about ucm ? I believe UC 's are a bit more generous for sorting students. Obviously, would require a higher test score but OP 's GPA is definitely incrange and UC’s weight GPA more than test score as long as the score’s in the 20’s.
Op:
Have you received your sat score yet? (they started sending them out)
I think St Mary’s of CA and uRedlands are test optional but I don’t know if they’ve got nursing.
UCM is an option but the ACT needs to be in the 22-26 range while the SAT needs to be in the 1020-1100 range for a solid chance. I agree the OP’s GPA is definitely in range for UCM and many of the Cal states, it is the test scores which need to be bumped up.
If a Cal State is your goal @almaa_card123, then your local in-service area CSU will be your best bet.
UCM does not have nursing but the link below gives a good plan on how to achieve a nursing degree while attending.
Well i took the June SAT and i just checked right now and i have received anything. It said i won’t until July 21st. But i’ll check back here when i do @MYOS1634
Thanks!
Check the UC Merced link above too.
CSu’s assume you will live at home so forming is out of pocket, whereas UC 's assume forming and this include it’s costs in financial aid package… Also you might qualify for blue&gold or calGrant due to family size.
Exactly what @Gumbymom has stated^ AND keep your counselor in the loop.
FYI, Yes, it is July, but the guidance counselors are in and out, but they do check emails. At my school they are constantly in and out.
Some of them have to finalize paperwork (transcripts) going to the Uni’s. Some are signing off on CalGrants with the GPA required signatures. Some are tying up loose ends for the seniors who are starting the colleges next month.
Contact your GC, and let him/her know, in a quick email, that you are researching your college options. Ask him/her to add anything that may be important.
@MYOS1634l, Merced apparently could work if OP increased her ACT score since Merced has to now work with those waitlisted students on the ELC who didn’t get in anywhere with their competitive ACT scores. I didn’t think they had nursing. I think St. Mary’s does have nursing options.
