Was I supposed to get financial aid? Please look at my info!?

I submitted my CSS profile on 3/7 and was admitted to U of M last Thursday. How long do you think I have to wait to receive my financial aid package?

no idea @besteffort123 michigan is so slow with everything admissions related, like come on, get more admissions officers and make everything readily available for students. I don’t know my decision yet and when I click on my financial aid status it says " no information to display " when I already submitted my FAFSA & CSS profile ages ago.

seriously… good luck w you man! @uofmfan

If you have not been admitted, you would not see any update on financial aid. They admit 14000 applicants each year from over 50000 applicants. They would work on the financial aid for early action admitted students first and that should come out in early March. Regular admission should receive the estimated financial package afterward.

If you were admitted to Wayne State, wouldn’t they give you more aid or merit money than U of M?

No. Michigan has much deeper pockets than WSU.

Is that only for need based or also for merit?

@3js3ks

Wayne State has less deep pockets for BOTH merit and need based aid.

MIchigan meets full need for all instate students who are admitted. Let’s start there. Wayne State does not.

Most of the large merit scholarships at UMich have been announced. There were special welcome events for those recipients in March. For the merit aid, one needs to apply EA and admitted by early Feb except for some special ones like in music school.
UMich has the second largest endowment among all public colleges in the US. Not only they meet the needs of all in state students, they pledged to reduce loan and provide more grant to them. In recent years, they started to offer generous aids to some oos students too.

Wayne State should have awarded grants of around $7,500 to you, given your info, as long as you filed for aid before 3/31. I ran the NPC using 3 in household, 1 in college, and AGI between 50-59K, and assuming this is the first time you are attending college. You can call and ask to talk to an aid officer. From what I can tell, WSU’s policy is to award the difference between your EFC and the average cost of a full time course load in grants, but I believe you have to file the FAFSA by the deadline, be first-time-in-college, and submit any required documents on time (if selected for verification).

I won’t be attending Wayne State if I get into UMich. I know UMich costs more but I know they’ll give me aid for sure.I just have to get admitted first b/c otherwise I can’t compare how much each school is giving me, as UMich doesn’t show your aid until you get admitted

UMich’s NPC is pretty accurate. Have you tried that?

@uofmfan

I don’t know if any college that tells you your financial aid before you are admitted.

Hey guys, just passing along something I learned this week. If you were admitted and you’ve been waiting for your financial aid package for a while now, call them. I apparently clicked the option to not send my social security number on the Common App and because of that, Michigan hasn’t been able to upload my financial aid documents or review them at all.

The OP hasn’t been admitted which is why s/he doesn’t have a FA package.

As of now, most (>99%) of the admissions at UMich should have announced. In the upcoming week will come mostly rejection notices or waitlist invitations.
