I definitely remember seeing something about it being optional when I filled out the CommonApp for Dartmouth, but looking at their website now, it appears that it was actually required-- it's listed as required for all applicants along with test scores, teacher recommendations, etc. on their website. So am I completely screwed if I didn't submit one?

Can’t say if you’re screwed, though this was already discussed in one of the previous posts.

What you can do now is try to get in sent in ASAP, and leave the rest to fate.

The peer rec has never been optional. It is a only required supplemental part of the application. I agree with Leo, you need to get it in ASAP

I don’t remember ever seeing a peer rec, and I didn’t do it. I did do the Common App, and I already received a letter that said I will get acceptance if it makes you feel better.

However, I am a US Marine who had a letter of rec from my boss (among others), which is kind of the same thing almost.

It was definitely required, though if you had other letters of recommendation (exceeding the required ones from teachers/counselors), you might be okay. I’d call the admissions office ASAP.

I know somebody who didn’t turn it in and got a likely letter. I don’t think she turned in any supplemental recs.

I guess call the admissions office to be sure, though.

I had the same issue and contacted the Dartmouth admissions office. They said that I could still send one in (this was a few weeks ago) but that not having one on file would not negatively impact my application in any way.
