Was Wait Listed & Got In!

I just also called the Phillips Academy admissions office and was told that there are several hundred students who are waitlisted in total.

Star, what grade is your daughter in? And if you don’t mind my asking, is she FA?

9th grade. she needs Financial aid…I guess Andover is telling different stories to everyone ?

COUGH COUGH It’s a conspiracy! Andover is lying…obviously, makes me wonder…

Well then star, we are on the same waitlist! Me and your daughter, that is. I hope we cget to go to school together next year!

Sounds like the correct number is ~200. 25 girls on waitlist per grade would assume coorisponding 25 for boys for each grade or 50 total per grade therefore 200 total for the four grades. Probably a few more sprinkled in for PG…wow!!!

Nice math, worktowin! Haha my mind loses all its lucidity when I start thinking about waitlists…

bump…

The numbers game is a bit pointless. Each school approaches is pretty much the same way. They have a list, separated by grade, and by boys and girls (and perhaps other categories, such as state or interest). When they start to see the class shape up with acceptances, they decide if they need to add a 9th grade boy or a 11th grade girl to round out that class. They find they still have a bit of fin aid and take another fin. aid student. Theyneed another Midwesterner, or another minority, or another drama-type. The Lax coach comes in and checks on his recruits. Or, a trustee may make a call on behalf of a WL kid from his hometown in Greenwich, Ct. And so, it goes.

Erlanger - I’m sure thats exactly how it works, but the numbers still mean something. If they are looking for a hockey star for 9th grade do they have one or twenty on standby? The size of the waiting pool, along with which schools have under enrolled or over enrolled, these are questions we would love to know the answers to.

We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Truly, I wish we could manufacture up some fairy godmothers for all the wait listed kids.

I know its hard–we had 4 W/L last year. The best advice I got from others is to tell the school of your continued interest–have current teacher or headmaster make a call, send follow up grades, information, awards, send a letter of first choice interest. It sill might not work because of all of the other variables over which there is no control, but if a school goes to a W/L, it could help. Good luck!

Just posting to bump this up to page 1 so people don’t miss it

God, I’ve seen this thread a million times but when I see it bumped up on the page it makes my heart jump. every time.

ditto and I’m not even worrying about the WL LOL

10 char

^ lucky you blue lol

but same here wickedcrazy :P

the waiting list makes my brain hurt. I hate purgatorio.
