Wash U. St. Louis vs. CMU as match/safety

I'm planning to study something business-related and science as well for undergrad. I already have about 12 schools down and am trying to cut down. I know Wash U. and CMU are relatively different schools. I know CMU is very techy and also has like #5 or 6 undergrad business, but I hear beyond Wharton, Stern, and Ross, it doesnt really matter. I don't know much about the academics at Wash U., but someone had suggested it as a safety for me. So can anyone help me out?

I don't know anyone who could consider either one of these schools as a safety!

well, everyone I know who has applied to CMU has used it as a safety. All of them got in too. I'm not too sure about Wash U. I only know 2 ppl who applied. One got a full ride but turned it down for P-ton. I don't blame them.

I got a 50% tuition things as well, but am not attending

I don't really think they could be safeties for must people, or even matches, but they seem more score oriented (however, CMU's CS department is top notch in admissions standards)

I like CMU better because its in the Northeast...thats about it for their comparison

how's the courseload and social scene at the two schools?
