Wash U vs. Brown?

I can't decide between the two!!! How do they compare academically and socially? I'm going for Chem E.

Thank you!

we are just in the same situation. i’m slightly leaning to Brown, but i know WUSTL is also a very good school. i’ve put a thread in the Brown page and got several replies, you can go there to have a visit.

sorry,i’ve just found that we’ve seen there. To be truth,i prefer Brown socially and WUSTL academically, but more like to have the intention to select Brown.your opinion?

haha hello again! i’m actually leaning toward WUSTL because the people there were SOO nice but I’m visiting brown for A Day on College Hill so I guess that will be the deciding factor. For me, the social aspect is more important because I feel both the schools are pretty comparable in academics.

Brown is a bit funky. Much lower endowment, fewer resources than Wash U.

I had to make the same choice. I chose WUSTL.

Yeah, although I loved College Hill/Thayer Street/Providence when I visited, the facilites of Brown itself are pretty lacking. Except the gorgeous Sci Li, VDub, and some new graduate buildings, I felt like almost every building I entered was old and falling apart. The food and dorms are just bad, IMO. WashU, on the other hand, has fabulous facillites, great food and dorms…even the “traditionals” still look nicer than Brown’s dorms. It’s also ranked higher, if that kind of thing matters, although Brown will always win with name recognition. I liked the open curriculum (everyone does, lol) and the freedom that that sort of thing affords, and I’ve heard a lot of complaints at WashU about the cluster system, but I think I heard that it’s being overhauled and redone soon. It’s easy to double major at both schools anyway, if that’s what you’d want to use the open curriculum for. I got the feeling that Brown kids acted more laid back than they really were…like, shopping at trendy boutiques and stuff to look indie and wearing sunglasses in the rain, lol. I felt like if I went there, I’d have to overhaul my style completely. I didn’t get that feeling at WashU…there’s a lot of WashU gear and sweatpants and different types of style interspersed between a lot of normal kids.

Anyway, most of this had nothing to do with the academics…but honestly, I think they’re equally good at both schools, although beforwarned that Brown isn’t as undergraduate focused as WashU. It really depends on what type of person you are…

princessbell - You found the magic key to all good choices when it comers to college "It really depends on what type of person you are… " - I would just finish it with and where you feel most comfortable and feel that you fit in the best. Simple as that - don’t need other opinions or stats or whatever - it is all about where you want to spend the next 4 years of your life. Nobody but YOU can or even should make that decision.
