Wash U vs.Georgetown

K I recently got accepted into Georgetown University, Washington University in St. Louis, Boston College, and USC. After narrowing it down I've decided I want to attend either G'town or WUSTL but am having a hard time on which to go to. I'm getting ready to visit both but wanted some opinions on which I should go to. I'm a decided Biological Sciences major at either school and am going pre-med. I've heard the premed at WUSTL is great but I've also heard that the student body is somewhat geeky and socially awkward. I'm kind of a preppy guy, an athlete at my school, and like to party pretty hard from time to time. I'm also interested in knowing which school has a less cutthroat premed program if anyone knows. Academics are important to me also so if anyone can tell me which school would be better academically let me know(I know it's WUSTL but i'd like to know to what extent.) Anyways, based on this info where do you guys think I would be a better fit at?

GTOWN OR WUSTL?

I'm also Black and live in a pretty racially diverse part of Texas where ethnicity usually means little in establishing what crowd you hang out with, so if you guys know which school is more accepting of diverse students or where students of different ethnic backgrounds hang out more(as opposed to forming racially segregated cliques which I've heard is the case at many universities) let me know. Thanks I appreciate all y'alls input.

Both schools are great...as far as WashU's social atmosphere, i actually believe its the opposite. The students aren't geeky or quirky. They are really nice, normal and just happy to be at WashU. I believe WashU is better for medicine as well. I love Georgetown, but I think they are way too strict with their cirriculum. WashU is a bit more versatile. I'd pick WashU if I were you, and yes I am partially saying this because I will be attending this fall

I've heard that WUSTL's pre-med track is very cutthroat. As for which college has the better program, I'm not sure.

CC where did you hear it was cutthroat? That kinda turns me off of the school as I would prefer an environment where I could work with my peers to study and whatnot. Does anyone know the grading system at either school? Is there a lot of grade inflation at either Gtown or Washu? i know, a lot of questions but anyone who has answers would be greatly appreciated lol

From the people I know who are pre-med here, it isn't cutthroat. It's intense, but people end up working together and studying together a lot. They even have peer led tutoring groups for the science classes, to help students out.

I heard from a college counselor that Georgetown is non-diverse. If you don't fit into a certain background, you will not be as happy there. It is more "southern" in personality than Wash U - and it was founded by Jesuits. I don't know this from experience, but the fact a paid college counselor told me this (who lives within a 2-hour radius of Georgetown) carried a lot of weight for me.

That's the impression I've gotten from reading college books and talking to people who graduated from my HS and are now at Wash U. They say that many students intend to become pre-med, and that classes like general chem are notoriously difficult and try to 'weed' students out. Of course this could be only half true, or not at all, as I've never experienced the program myself. I'd still recommend WUSTL anyway because it's a fantastic school, and I'll be going there this fall :)

If you like to party go to Georgetown! I imagine premed is probably less cut-throat than Wash U...I have a nephew who goes to Georgetown and he loves it there! He works hard academically, but he also likes to socialize and party!

missmolly - We can party at Wash U too. Pretty hard at that :D

Go to WashU. Yeah, it's intense, but students still study together. If you want to take it easy, why don't you just go to a state school? No, you'll realize that a challenging curriculum is a good thing.

Also, if you 'discover' that you don't want to go to medcial school...that's a good thing. Better sooner than later.

By no means do I want to relax, I just prefer a nurturing environment as opposed to a highly competitive cutthroat one. I'm absolutely sure I want to go to med school, my father and 3 uncles are physicians and I love the nature of the work they do. i'm just trying to see where I could get the best possible education AND be happy. thanks for all y'alls input I really appreciate it keep it comin if at all possible, it's a tough decision :-/

Since your father and 3 uncles are physicians, I would suggest you to hear their opinions as well.

yah my dad's pushin for wustl, if he wasnt i mightve prematurely sent my enrollment letter for gtown lol. Still, though both seem to be very prestigious universities and were my top two choices when i first began applying to schools. Now I'm torn between the two, my family and teachers and such haven't done much to sway me either way so im askin for outside opinions from people who might know more specifically about the two schools. It's the next 4 years of my life and I'm kinda worried about makin the wrong choice.

I don't think you'll be going wrong with either school academically. At both you'll get an extraordinary education. Have you considered at all whether you'd rather be in Washington D.C. or St. Louis? That's going to play a large part in your next for years. I live right outside of DC, and it's a great city, but Georgetown has a lot of people interested in politics whereas WUSTL definetely has a science focus.

Bio and premed are definitely WashU's strong points, so i'd suggest WashU
