Washington and Jefferson or University of Virginia?

Be honest. Which one do you think is better or worse, and why?

They’re different. W&J is small LAC in Pennsylvania, UVA is prestigious state university - not huge but large.

That’s a question only you can answer. What do you want in a college? Figure that out and you’ll be closer to knowing which one. then go visit them both and do an overnight.

Having said that, no one’s ever heard of W&J and UVA is one of the five best public flagships with research resources that will dwarf W&J.

Adding to post #1, don’t the key admissions statistics (quality of applicants, acceptance rates, etc.) appreciably differ. They are both good schools, but – if it is affordable – I would opt for UVa without hesitation.

Thank you for your well thought out responses. I really appreciate it! @TopTier‌ @jkeil911‌ @scmom12‌

at washington and jefferson you will be part of a “family”. at uva you will part of a machine. uva is an amazing school no doubt…it depends on your personality.

OP – did you mean Washington and Lee (in Virginia) instead of Washington and Jefferson (in Pennsylvania)? Just curious.

@gandalf78‌ I actually applied there too! But no, I meant PA lol.

OP – As I mentioned, just curious; they are such very different schools, as scmom12 wrote in post #1

^^I had the same question, since apart from size W&L are much more on same level academically as UVA where as W&J doesn’t seem as selective.

They are very different - I don’t know many students who have attended W&J, but there was a young man from our neighborhood who did and he was admitted to 2 veterinary schools, which is very competitive. W&J is known in the Pittsburgh region, but in my opinion, UVA would be a more prestigious school.
