W&L is a very small school but I'm hoping someone on here is either familiar with the school, applying/applied there, or is going there. It's quite prestigious (hence the name Washington & (Robert E) Lee) and is ranked 25 on the Forbes list. It has an average SAT range of something like 1310-1430, writing excluded. Probably the most glaring part of it is that is has a tuition of close to 60 grand.

You didn’t give any hint about your stats. For a schools its’ size it has generous merit aid if you qualify. Look at the link on website for info on Johnson scholarships. They give 40 FULL rides to each freshman class (40 out of 350-400 is pretty good in my opinion since Davidson gives only a handful). But it is very competitive…the admissions blog the year my child applied stated that many applicants that were valedictorians or had perfect scores didn’t get invited to competition. Look at CSS application since this is what they use for financial need (I think). They are a questbridge school if that’s applicable. There are also some regional scholarships that you can get. It is a school that requires an interview…you can set one up when tour or interview with alumni in your area.We did the alumni interview and I think it helped…especially if you can honestly say it’s your top pick. I would encourage you to go tour and then maybe go back and do second tour and interview if you aren’t too far away so you can really articulate what you like about the school. It is a little easier to get in ED, but it is binding and at that price may not be possible.

Ask your guidance counselor about former students who might have gone that you can talk to and call admissions to see when they are in your area. Show of interest will help at this school. Of course, first you need the grades and stats! It is beautiful school and my child loves itl

Thanks for the info. I have a 4.37 GPA weighted, top 10%. I’m actually looking to go there for athletics, but only academic scholarships are given at D3 schools. I made a 660 CR on my 1st SAT attmp, now awaiting June SAT scores (didn’t focus on math the first attmp.). My EC’s: 3-year team captain, youth philanthrophy club member, NHS

If you are being recruited there is a good chance they’ll come up with some merit $ for you (it will be categorized as academic).

Washington and Lee is on the list of colleges where applying early decision makes the biggest difference in increasing the odds of admission. In the 2009 cycle, the acceptance rate for ED applicants was 44% and the acceptance rate for RD applicants was 16%.

Yeep. Now that’s a big bump.

Tons of athletes there and very successful in many sports in ODAC.
