Thanks so much for this info! My son was just accepted to WMP for fall 2017 with spring 2018 admission, and we’re seriously considering it. My big concern is whether there is any stigma attached to being part of this program. Did your child feel that at all? Also, did they have any difficulty transitioning from WMP to AU?
@Confusedmom2017 I didn’t get the impression there was any “stigma” attached the program, the big issue being that the credits don’t transfer to other universities and there is no financial aid available. Indeed, it was the latter that we found really disappointing. If you need FA, you will be expected to borrow the money.
@Confusedmom2017 I hope you realize this an old thread. Last post from 2015. If AU is your son’s first choice, he’s not looking for the traditional freshman experience, money is no object, and he received no merit aid elsewhere; American might be the right place for him. Make sure all of your WMP questions are answered from housing to class availability to the fall welcome to campus.
For those who are reading this thread now in 2017 with questions, be aware that this is an old thread. As a freshman who was not in WMP but know many, there is no difference regarding people fitting in. WMP students no longer live off campus, they live on campus with other freshman students so there are no lack of social opportunities there. They have the same access to facilities that I did, and they attend the same social events that the rest of us do. You don’t even know if someone is in WMP unless they volunteer that information.
@HeyItsNick There is one huge different–financial aid. That hasn’t changed. WMP get zero financial aid.
@exlibris97 Yes, definitely. But my post was about differences of people fitting in.
