Washington Scholars

Has anyone heard back from the Washington Scholars program yet? Their site says they will notify applicants by mid March...

I called the program, and they said to expect letters in mid-April. Currently the program is in legal limbo because of Washington’s budget issues. The governor recommended that it be cut entirely, the House reinstated it, and the Senate suspended new awards for this year. The legislature is in special session right now trying to reconcile the House and Senate versions, and who knows how long that will take…

Thanks for the update. Things were starting to look bleak after the cut from full tuition down to 90% last year, I was just hoping larger cuts wouldn’t happen until I was through with college.

Thanks for giving me an update. I have a feeling it is going to be cut altogether… nonetheless, it would be a wonderful award.

So truly, letters should be arriving any day. Are they only notifying the winners and alternates or all applicants?

The legislature passed their budget Monday, and kept partial funding for the program. Two awards will still be given but, for the next year at least, only one will be paid for by the state.

Letters should be sent to all applicants.

Anyone get that letter yet?

I talked with them today and they said the letters were going out this afternoon. They also expect an update on the website early next week.

Got my letter today–I am an alternate. Feels good and bad, but I guess since they are only giving one scholarship out per district I don’t really have a shot at seeing any money anyway (unless the legislation is changed next year…)

Anyone know how many scholars typically go out of state and drop the scholarship?

Letter came today.

ds is third in his district - hoping 1 & 2 are heading out of state or already have full scholarships…we can dream. I was a scholar in 1987 but back then they paid full tuition, room & board.
Letter did say if funding came back, he will still be eligible next year.

Does anyone know what methods are used to determine what legislative district you are in? I certainly don’t remember filling out anything indicating what district I am in, and what do you know… I looked at the published list of scholars yesterday and they have me listed as an alternate for THE WRONG DISTRICT. I already sent an email to the director about it with a copy of my voter registration card as evidence.
