I have narrowed my acceptance to these two colleges. I’m trying to figure out which one to attend. I have been struggling with my choice. Can anyone give me insight? Thanks
Depends on your major. If you’re going for pre-med/STEM then WashU. Business/Econ would be a tossup but WashU Olin wins out. Probably only classics or philosophy would BC have an edge.
@Hamurtle I want to study Psychology and Political Science and then go on to Law School.
I would seriously consider the one that is cheaper if you are looking at law school. Have you visited both campuses?
@suzy100 no price difference for me. I have visited both campuses and love both of them.
Sounds like best fit will be the deciding factor. Boston and St. Louis are different cities. Midwest versus East Coast. Neither place has the greatest weather although St. Louis has the milder winters.
Prestige is a big factor for me. Don’t get me wrong, BC is very prestigious and I absolutely love Boston, but I personally would choose WashU in a heartbeat. Don’t know how this would affect your decision at all but sharing an opinion
WashU has good programs in Psychology and Political Science. Boston probably has more in the area of internships/research opportunities but Chestnut Hill is rather out of the way from downtown Boston.
I can understand your quandary concerning Boston. My son was considering Boston University, Brandeis, and Tufts and would have submitted the applications had he not been accepted by WashU ED. Not BC though-their STEM wasn’t to his liking even though he visited twice.
WashU’s law school is #18 according to the latest US News and World Reports rankings.
Would also put in a vote for WashU. BC is an awesome school but WashU is simply an epic school. Its got top programs in Psychology and Poli Sci, it has top ten best food top 5 food and has the best camps in the country. Hands down WashU.
If you can afford it, go Wash U. Having to turn it down because it’s full price for us, but wow just wow. We live near BC. It’s good but I think WashU is on a different level. Just my opinion. Also BC is religious if that matters. BC also has decent sports…not sure about WashU but doesn’t sound like that would be a deciding factor.
BC. Folks that live near any school usually don’t appreciate how well respected it is due to the constant exposure to grads and sports teams. Wash U is great but certainly not at another level. As someone in finance and in NY and northeast BCs is rep and alumni network is actually much more omnipresent than Wash U. You can’t go wrong but it’s an important 4 years. A BC vs ND footlball games might stay with you as a pleasant experience for the rest of your life too.
Housing can be a big issue at BC. Were you guaranteed housing for 4 years?
What I have learned is that kids love to take the jr year off and usually right down the road. And they all come back senior year. Also you can apppeal for the 4th year and many kids with 4 years actually move off jr year anyway. But it is also something to consider.
On an upbeat note. No pun intended.
Check out two great music videos on YouTube or if you google it. BC “Happy” and Shake it off. BC. The later Taylor Swift tweeted out to her 45 million followers. They are great and give a good look at some facilities the kids and some fun
If costs and fit are similar, I’d say washu. The two schools aren’t really aren’t that similar prestige-wise.
I’m not sure this is the case if you are still deciding. Rankings change and I don’t totally buy. USNWR. WU is tied for 18. BC 32. Forbes which includes lacs, colleges and universities together Wash U is 36. BC 49.
Above the law law school rankings BC 21 Wash U 26
And the local competition/comparison in each market is a a little more intense in Boston.
Both fine top schools when you look at the hundreds of options. Wash U has been elite for e while and BC is climbing. Different league. That’s just not accurate.
I think Wash U is a gem of a school with strong programs in the humanities, social and natural sciences and STEM, a stunning campus, and great quality of life for its students. St. Louis an underrated city with a lot to offer. I’d take Wash U. in a heartbeat over Boston College.
@aleg which school did you decide to attend?
WashU is awesome, but hey its in St. Louis. BC is in Boston which is a much more happening city in every way- but especially dynamic in the center of the life sciences revolution, music scene, etc.
