Washu or Northwestern..

I got accepted to WASHU from regular decision and chose WASHU over JHU, Umich-AA, Rice, Cornell, and other safety schools...
but.. several days ago, I got a mail from Northwestern saying that I also got accepted NU from the waitlist..

I have visited WAShu during the multicultural weekend(which was sweeeet), but for me, the overall atmosphere of Northwestern(chicago) seems much better than that of WASHU(I'm not saying ST.louis is bad.... it's just that chicago is too cool.)

I'm an international student(waiting for green card) and I also planning to major in BME with pre-med... So far, I've heard that WASHU's pre-med program is significantly better than most other prestigious schools, but at the same time it is also very difficult(esp. majoring in BME)..

So... ye......which school I chose?

Not even close, washington university is the most ove school in the country, pick northwestern, btw what school at northwestern did you get accepted to?

You just love to troll, don't you, sergio?

In a WashU topic:

hahahah
Colossus is hilarious*

Hahaha, let's feed the trolls.

I can't really offer any advice regarding your decision of NW vs. WashU, but don't listen to Sergio, at least.

Wow Achil, I appreciate how you take a comment from a random thread out of context. I was just laughing at the ridiculousness and audacity of Colossus's comments. However, you can't seem to comprehend sarcasm. Therefore, you are the one that shares the simple characteristics of a troll. Also, in my opinion and many other people's Northwestern is a better university than Wash U., and Wash U. only manipulates the U.S. News rankings, and is not in Northwestern's caliber.

If you plan to choose Northwestern over WashU because of Chicago, u may want to think again. I live in Chicago, and Northwestern definitely does NOT give you the feel of the city of Chicago. It is very suburban. However, Northwestern has a beautiful campus that overlooks the lake (or some other body of water). If u want a city feel, I find that more in the college atmosphere of WashU than Northwestern. Need any more info just let me know.

staris14@aol.com, or just post it :-)

Well... I just talked to my friend at NU, and I've heard that although Chicago is very close to NU, people(esp. pre-med ppl) don't have time to hang around in chicago...but at the same time, my relatives live in chicago, so if I really want to visit Chicago, I can just get $80 roud trip airplane ticket or just take $22 train from St.Louis to Chicago(ST.louis is really close to chicago).
Also.... I've heard that Northwestern is more famous???? or has higher name-value than Washu does...
On the other hand, I also heard from many people that WASHU is definetly overrated in U.S. News...

Well.. I don't give a **** about U.S. news ranks or name-value, but at the same time, I don't want to explain where WASHU is everytime I talk to other people...(some people even think WASHU as University of Washington, Washington State University... or even George Washington(***?))
so... ye.. please help me.. I only have 5 days left for NU

If you picked WasHU over Cornell and JHU, you must already have some appreciation of its advantages over "brand" names of other schools - namely nicer campus, friendly students, flexibility of cirriculum, undergraduate focus, better social life, etc.

Both Cornell and JHU have better name recognition than WashU (and Northwestern as well), yet you dropped them off your list in favor of WashU.

People who matter (employers, grad schools) know WashU as the University on par with these other schools, but many people on the street are not familiar with it.

That is how I would compare these schools:

Name recognition - NW
Undergraduate focus / class sizes - WashU
Dorms - WashU
Food - WashU
Campus - tie
City - NW (not by much, because there are very nice areas right by WashU)
Sports and school spirit- NW
Social life - tie
Friendly students - WashU

For pre-med I would say that WashU wins hands down with more research opportunities and famous medical school. For other majors it is a tough call.

Don't listen to the *******s who flood the board talking about WashU is overrated or manipulates rankings or any of that other bullish. If you have any questions regarding WashU's stance as a premier university, just check my former posts and stuff. I'd choose WashU over any school in the nation for undergrad hands down without a second thought because it is the school for me, all things considered. Sure, it'd be nice if John Doe on the street would know that WashU was ranked number 11, but it doesn't matter in the scheme of things. WashU's undergraduate program is all around good.

What you have to do is figure out where you want to be. You say you don't care about prestige and all of that, so I think WashU wins in any other catageory that you'd be considering. Academics are a wash (no pun intended) for both schools are two of the best and you'll do just as well at either. Its all about where you want to live for 4 years.

guys.. thanks a lot... I really appreciated you guys' help..
I am going to WASHU...

Very happy to hear that. You won't regret your decision!

Congrats, i dont think u will regret your decision
