cant decide where to go. im looking at washu premed but im concerned i might not make it through their premed and get a decent gpa and mcat score. my other option is neoucom kent state, if anyone could tell me how that would go. i want to studyabroad and take langauage courses but i know that if you even have the tinest doubt about being a doctor washu's premed will root you out.

What I tell everyone is that you should go to the school that is the best fit for you, the one at which you'll be the happiest, and NOT worry about trying to pick an undergrad school on what will be the best for med school. The reason is that med schools look at what you DID, not where you WENT. You can get into med school from anywhere, but no school guarantees you admission to med school somewhere. You have a lot of things you want to do, so you should go to a school that will best allow you to do those things.

(also, b/c so many kids start pre-med as incoming froshes and then drop, it's smart to go someplace you'll be happy...not saying that this will happen to you, but statistics and personal observation are on my side...)

thanks for the advice. but the thing is i have guaranteed admission to medschool at neoucom as long as i kep a 3.2 gpa and 24 on mcat but i wont be able to explore things as much and neoucom isnt a top rated medschool but it'll still make me a doctor.

Holy smokes, a 3.2, 24?? Why do they even make you take the MCAT?

lets just say rootstown sucks lol...its like the whole town is a mile long road

if i go to neoucom i'll be going to kent state for undergrad

Vardhan, are you interested in being "oriented to the practice of medicine at the community level, with an emphasis on primary care: family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and ob/gyn"?

If so, more power to you - goodness knows our country needs more primary care docs. But if you are interested in procedural medicine or specialization, this medical school sounds like it has a very specific mission.

i have the exact same problem vardhan. i am deciding between georgetown and neoucom akron. i think bluedevilmike makes the best point. neoucom is really just for primary care, and i think it will be harder to get into a specialization if we go there

Hey guys, sorry for bringing up an old thread. But I’m in the same boat as you guys were 6 years ago, deciding between Wash. U. and Kent State. So I was just wondering what decision each of you ended up going with. How do you like your respective schools? Do either of you regret your decision? Thanks.
