Ladies & Gents-
I'm aware of the various pros/cons of the above schools (urban V. rural, co-ed V. all women, big V. small etc..). Howeve, I have almost no clue as to how they compare prestige wise. While I'm hesitent to ask you all to "rank" them, I really would appreciate it if you'd give me a general sense of where you think they fall. I'd like to get a better sense of this factor before making a decision.

Prestige doesn't matter at this level. Go for the school that has the best department in what you want to study, and the one that fits you best in personality.

I disagree with the comment that Wash U has the most prestige. My school sends a lot of students to Wash U, and even so very few people even know where it is. That is why they have to add "in St. Louis" to their name.

These are very different schools. That short list represent rural vs. urban, humanities oriented vs. science oriented, small vs. large, etc. It really is impossible to tell without knowing your interests and preferences.

It's not a nunnery...they let the women off campus, you know. Plus, the question asks about prestige, and Wellesley is undoubtedly prestigious, although I won't speculate as to where I would put it on the list, besides the fact that while a very good school, I would put Colgate as the least prestigious.

TerrarumOrbis has already posted in the Wellesley forum that she is choosing Wellesley, so she obviously can deal with the women's college aspect. Just because something is not one's own personal preference does not mean that it "sucks". I would never in a million years apply to Harvard undergrad, for many reasons, but I would never say that it sucked!

purely personal opions -
GW big rep in mid-atlantic and DC - some depts outstanding
Rice people love it and academically it is top tier
others would put inbetween those two

I would say that WUSTL is the least known of the four; however, it probably has the highest SAT avg and lowest acceptance rate, but also the lowest yield of the four as well.
