washu suite style dorms

Can someone please clarify what the suite style dorms in washu means? Does it mean that you will have your own bathroom or that you will only share the bathroom with a certain number of people? For example, what does it mean, in a single room dorm (traditional) and what does it mean, in a double room dorm (modern). Thanks in advance

A single room traditional dorm style consists of single, non-sharing rooms (or sharing, in the case of double or triple) with a common bathroom/shower for the whole floor. It is more like “community living”. A modern suite is two, double rooms with a bathroom and a common hallway to share between the two rooms (4 students). Thats my understanding. There are videos of various WashU dorm styles on YouTube.

In addition to the traditional layout with the entire floor sharing a bathroom, there are traditional suite-style dorms on the South 40, mostly for sophomores. In the suite-style dorms, you will typically have two singles and two doubles, a bathroom, and a common room. If you request a traditional single as a freshman, you cannot choose between having a single in a suite or a single on a floor that shares a bathroom. Modern doubles have two double bedrooms connected by a bathroom. Modern singles have 4 singles connected by a small vestibule and share two bathrooms.

If you want your own space and own bathroom (only sharing with one other person), I recommend a modern single.
