I got into WashU in St Louis but got waitlisted at Pomona. Which one is better for pre-med/biology major? I want to know if I should stay on the waitlist.

Congrats on getting in to WashU! WashU has the advantage of having a medical school there, so pre-med students can sometimes participate in research. Pomona doesn’t have that, but they DO have smaller classes. If you like the idea of smaller classes (and better weather), and think you might PREFER it to WashU, stay on the waitlist. WashU is ranked 12th overall for universities, (their med school is ranked 3rd, behind Harvard and Johns Hopkins) and Pomona is ranked 6th (tied with a few other schools). I think the biggest advantage of Wash U is the med school right there; the biggest advantage of Pomona is smaller classes.

It is also ridiculously easy to do research at pomona… even as a freshman (not that i have, but my friends have). Literally my friends have walked up to professors, told them they liked their research, and asked to be in their labs, simple as that. Also, the pre-med environment is not cut-throat at all, while, from what i understand, Wash U is very competitive.

Thanks guys! I think I will visit both schools sometime and decide.

goOPPA- good idea. They’re both fantastic schools, so it really comes down to which YOU like more.
