WashU Vs UCLA for pre-med

My son is in a dilemma to choose WashU or UCLA for pre-med. We live in CA. Keeping financial aspects aside, would like to know if the academic rigor in WashU is so high that there is not enough correlation between hard work and GPA. He has scored above 4.6 GPA with 13 APs in a competitive HS but quite reserved and very inquisitive on STEM related subjects.

Any feedback from WashU or UCLA premed students is much appreciated.

I’m interested to know how hard/easy to get following opportunities in UCLA for pre-med students

  1. Clinical experience
  2. Research (can they get from 1st year of undergraduate?)
  3. Internship
  4. Volunteering
  5. Shadowing

Since it is a public school, will there be lot of competitions to get these opportunities? Thank you so much for your time!

Have you taken this to the UCLA board? You may get more responses there.
