Hello, hello,

As stated above, my choices are either WashU or USC. I have been admitted into the business schools of both colleges, but I am not sure if I want to continue with business or not. There is a great possibility that I may major in social sciences (or arts) instead of business, or at least double major/minor. I am sure that I will never, ever major in any of the hard sciences.

I don't party very hard, but I do enjoy the occasional party or two. I would like a safe campus since I like to take walks in the dead of night. I don't really care about the weather. I live in Vancouver, and we have pretty weird weather most of the time. I would like professors that are engaged, and a student body to match. I am not into sports, but I sometimes watch hockey games. I plan to go to graduate school right after my undergrad, but I'm not sure what exactly I'll be majoring in.

I've visited both campuses, and I'm still not sure as to which would be best.

Help!

If you are going to walk at night, Wash U for sure. USC in South Central LA? Don’t even think about it. Also, Wash U is one of the easiest schools in the whole country to change majors, so since you are unsure, it is a great choice. And I would much rather watch the Blues than the Kings, anyway.

Haha, WashU is CLEARLY the best choice for you. Both are terrific schools academically and you’ll have great opportunities at either, but WashU has a much more academic atmosphere while the atmosphere at USC is similar to that of a state school (though it is much more selective than the typical state school).

As Fallenchemist mentioned: Don’t walk alone at night at USC lol
Changing majors: Easier at WashU
Sports: HUGE part of life at USC (especially football)

I’d give the slight edge to Marshall in terms of business NOW due to the Trojan Family but Olin is certainly getting up there.

And yeah, Blues games are apparently like 3-4 metrolink stops away from campus :)

Both great schools as THEAjay89 says and both have great opportunities in business and other majors. USC definitely has the networking at least here in LA.

As to the rest: an occasional party or two? Definitely WUSTL wins; USC is much more the “party” school and Greek focus. Agree with fallenchem about the walks at night and changing majors (D did it on first day of classes at WUSTL - process was simple; changes to anything at USC take a lot more effort on the part of the student). Engaged professors - WUSTL wins (also fewer TAs); less sports focus? WUSTL wins again (but has some championship DIII teams for those who want to dabble with the sports scene). It’s a no-brainer based on your likes/dislikes.

[NOTE: I have an older D at USC; younger D is at WUSTL]

Thank you for all the comments! I sent in my deposit check to…

WashU!

smart choice! Congrats. Just don’t second guess yourself when it is 15 degrees out with a -10 wind chill. Did we leave that out?? Sorry. LOL. Well, you are a smart guy, you knew the weather was better in SoCal. Seriously, I think you really made the right decision for the overall academics and experience you will have. Very best of luck!!

Oh, I’ll be alright. I adore the cold. Snow would be even better. I detest heat, but I hear that St. Louis gets hot in the summer months…

yeah, summers can be brutal, if you have a better climate to go to, take it. Oh I see Vancouver, one of my favorite spots. Yes, that is perfect.

I did some rafting on the Stein River up your way a few years back. Was awesome.
