WashU's Acceptance Rate Up?

WashU's acceptance rate jumped from 17 percent to 22 percent this year. Last year, on collegeboard, I remember seeing a 17 percent acceptance rate(which almost scared me out of applying), however, this year WashU has a 22 percent acceptance rate..

I think the reason for the increase is because:

WashU was scared of so many people turning down WashU's acceptance last year, that they increased the number of applicants they accepted in order to make sure a huge portion of their acceptances actually enroll. (Sad news for the us waitlisted people).

Any other thoughts?

I think people on this board are excessively and neurotically obsessed with Wash U's acceptance rate, yield, and waitlist.

No offense to you in particular, OP. I've just never seen so many threads with so many posts that deal with these particular topics, about this particular university. Is it something in the water?

They will probably suffer an even worse yield rate becuase of the economy. Even though Wustl improved its aid, it still can't compete with in-state publics and certain peer institutions.

This university is enigmatic. The waitlist, the name issue, etc.
Sort of like Penn back when it pioneered early decision. Hopefully it goes as well for Wustl.

Haha it certainly is.

Where'd you get the 22% stat?

^^ College Board...Last year, when I was researching schools on College Board, WashU had a 17 percent acceptance rate, this year, they have a 22 percent acceptance rate...

<a href="http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=313%5B/url%5D">http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=313</a></p>

Colleges, you're a year out of synch. The statistics reported by CB now are from the 2008-09 admissions cycle (i.e., this year's freshman class). Admissions stats for THIS year will not show up until next year's report.

You wont know the official acceptance rate until the entire class has been filled up (meaning that WashU hasnt begun to draw from the waitlist yet, and that will factor into the final acceptance rate)

I was recently waitlisted at WashU, and I had applied for FA, I didn't know WashU was need-aware, but I took myself off FA(I only applied for FA, because I wanted to see what I would get, I thought it was need-blind).....would this help my chances of getting off the waitlist?

I doubt it would make a difference. If you're really not going to apply for FA, though, you might as well let them know - they might like to keep track of those things for planning FA distribution. Best of luck !
