Wasted opportunity?

Hi

I'm an international student and have been playing the violin for about 5 years. Unfortunately I never really bothered to join an orchestra, do you think this will mean colleges won't really care that I play the violin? Would it put some colleges off from picking me? I have just finished 11th Grade and am hoping to apply to HYPSM.

Many thanks! :)

That’s silly. You may be rejected but it won’t be because of you’re not attaining some super human level of violin achievement. Not everything every applicant does factors into college admissions. YES, colleges may not care about your violin. So? Hopefully you’ve done other things besides this.

How good is your violin? Do you have any award from it? Is it good enough for submitting an art supplement? If not, then it is one EC item that has little impact.

I doubt that playing the violin will have any impact on your application. If you had performed in a community orchestra or something it might have been an advantage, but just playing in the school orchestra is no big deal over not playing in the school orchestra.
