Watch out, it's an admissions counselor!

Libby,

Why does the online app now say that credentials will be available November 1? It said October 15 or something before. I really wanted to check as soon as I could, since I have a supplemental rec that was sent awhile back from someone that it might take awhile to get in touch with if it never made it. Can I call or e-mail to find out if things have arrived?

bashi - Yes, we are always looking for more African-American applicants.

writ - There's a problem -- the request should go through in a few days. Try to request it again? Or PM me with your full name and I'll see what happened.

The reason we delayed the credential checking feature is because, gasp, we haven't started entering credentials. We're doing final testing on our new imaging system -- we'll be scanning all applicants and credentials, and reading online this year. So, even if you called or emailed, we wouldn't be able to tell you anything.

But do not fret. We will give you plenty of time to re-send something if you find that a document is missing. We will contact everyone who has missing documents that prevent us from making a decision, and give them time to send us a copy.

The rec I'm worried about is a supplemental one, and I'm sending another supplemental one, so you wouldn't know that it was missing.

Hi I am a Junior and, as of now U of Chicago is my top choice. Is there an SAT2 requirement for UofC, for i did not find anything on the site. Also is there anything aside from the norm I could be doing to better prepare myself for the U of C experience? Thank you for your time.

Libby,

I haven't heard a confirmatory email reply for the interview, even though I requested it 4 days ago (on Sunday). I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Can you tell me more about what's going on?

Thanks.

nobodyknows: SAT II's are not required for U of C.

Libby,

is there a priority filing period for regular decision? thanks for a reply.

Hi Libby. I also did not receive any response for my interview request, although I sent in my request on 13 Sep and sent emails to asc-questions@phoenix.uchicago.edu and my admission counsellor. I wonder whether interview is available in Singapore. Thanks for you time ^^

I also have the same problem as viva0yue2006, except instead of Singapore, it's New Jersey. Should I submit my application without knowing who and if and I am interviewing? Will you find out anyway, so it's not a big deal?

hi, is there a section for writing about the interview? i have already submitted my app, and i really didn't think there was. i mentioned my interview in my why chicago writing.

is there also a requirement to write about acitivities in detail?

Libby,

According to the postcard, you'll be at my son's school next week. Since your school is the closest to home of the schools he's considering (only 2,000 miles away), can you slip into your session how great your Classics Department is and how the pizza's much better in Chicago than the East Coast? Thanks!

You can submit your application before your interview, or after. It doesn't matter.

There's also not a section for writing about your interview. If that's a reason why you want to attend, then it's definitely something you can work into your "Why Chicago?" essay. We do not require that students write about activities in detail, but if they want to, that's fine.

Dear Libby,

I am a bit confused right now. The admissions website states that UChicago accepts students from community colleges, and you have answered questions about students transferring from CC's as well, but the Examination Credit and Transfer Credit pdf that was posted in this thread states:
"No course is eligible for transfer credit if it:
• is taken at an institution that does not grant bachelor’s degrees or is
unaccredited;"
Does this mean that no courses we take as community college students will be transferrable to UChicago, or am I misinterpreting something here?

I'm thinking there must be an exception then, since another section of the website says:

[quote]
Do you prefer transfer applicants from certain types of schools (i.e., public, private, two-year, four-year institutions)?
We do not give special consideration to students from any type of college; we regularly have admitted many transfer students from public schools and community colleges. We look for strong applicants who have demonstrated a high level of academic capacity and sought challenges at whatever school they previously attended.

But yeah, I'm interested about whether any courses will transer as well.

Hey Libby! :)

I kind of received the course catlouge package today. The catolouge fell out. It looks like the plastic ripped in the mail. D': Where do I go to request another one?

Thank you! :)

Libby,

The College Board website says that scores from the October SAT will not be available online, and thus cannot be sent, until November 2. You said in some earlier posts that Chicago will accept scores from tests that were completed before the deadline. Does this mean that it is okay to send October scores for the November 1 deadline, even though they will arrive a day late?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Libby,

For the Schools section of the app, do we need to list colleges where we have taken classes as well? The online version just says secondary schools, but when I check the application, the PDF says colleges and secondary schools. I am aware that I need to send a transcript, just not sure whether to list it there.

Also, for the ques that asks whether you have consulted with anyone regarding admission, what exactly does "regarding admission" mean? Interviews, info sessions at my school, e-mails with questions, e-mails to students, asking you things right now? Or do none of these things count?

Thanks.

Libby,

I know I'm kind of jumping the gun here as I haven't even submitted my application yet, but I've been reading Chicago's Course Catalog and I'm very curious about how hard it would be/if it is possible to take the course load that I would want to take at Chicago.

I am very interested in double majoring between English and History, while possibly also filling enough requirements for Medical School. I also want to take four languages, Chinese, Russian, Latin, and German (although Chinese I only want to learn basic reading/writing skills as I am fluent already, and Russian and German I want to take intensive-introductory courses to aid in what I want to pursue with English).

Would I die with a courseload like that?
