I'm applying under early decision to the University of Chicago. I really want to get in. I'm taking the SAT I in like 7 days. I've got the recommendations, some really good EC's like model UN, hospital work, etc and have a good essay. I'm expecting an SAT score of around 2000 or maybe higher. 700 verbal, and probably 650 in writing and math. But im working on these. But thats what i think i'll get. I'm doing A Levels and living in Pakistan but I'm an american citizen, blue passport and everything. What are my chances?

I would think you will need a higher SAT score. One of my D's friends is ther he was tob 5% at a very competitive hs, probably 1500 on the old SAT.

I agree with SRMom3. Also try to do more research on U of Chicago. They don't offer ED.

i think i meant early action.

A 1400 old scale is not a deal-breaker at all for Chicago. Many more factors come into play- the essays are extremely important. You have a fairly good chance if you apply EA.

I went to an info session at UChicago this summer, and all of us were asking technical questions about the SATs. Finally the admissions lady said

"It's not really that big of a deal. It's not like we sit down and go, 'Ooh, if only that kid had scored 100 points higher on the SAT, he/she would be a much better candidate.'"

In other words, I think Chicago cares a crapload about your essays and about you as a thinker rather than one standardized test. Focus on your essays.

hmm. thanks for replying. it's been really helpful. yeah i'm really working on my essay. I could tell from the essay options that they gave and the variety of choice that they gave that it was an important aspect of the application. thanks everyone.

you def. need a higher sat score

a higher sat score of abt 2100 wud help
