I'm going to be submitting the 5th essay option which is when you create your own prompt. If we do that do we have to submit our prompt to UofC with the essay, or just the essay?

Include the prompt. It tells the admissions committee as much about you as your response does. Admissions also offers previous applicants the chance to submit their prompts for consideration as future essay topics. I think this is terribly cool and uber Chicago. (sorry for the lack of umlaut!)

Is there a counselor rec required?

yes... (10 char)

I don't know if anybody could really answer this, but on the website it says "We require one recommendation from an English or social studies teacher and one from a science or mathematics teacher" and they seemed pretty serious about this. However, I am homeschooled and don't have these teachers. I do have teachers, but not in those subjects. Should I just use them?

Hi! Can you rank the admissions factors from most important to least important?
Please include factors like state residency and ethnicity/race.

A (very) trivial question about the essay: I have written a response which consists of a very small fictional story coupled with a large nonfiction segment. Is this fine or should the essay be unified in its format?

Guys- you should all know that Libby no longer works for the admissions office, so I'm not sure who/if an admissions counselor is still looking at these questions.

Quaja- really, any format is fine for the essays, as long as they reflect you. I've had friends that turned in plays, real essays, epic poems... whatever usually works.

how much do senior mid-year grades count to get into U Chicago? If a person's record was good, but then she gets "c'c second quarter, will they throw out the application,
also her essays were amazing.

When will transfer applicants be able to check their credentials?

you can actually check right now. They haven't emailed yet but I checked last night and this morning -- well, more like this morning at 4 AM and I re-checked again -- and you CAN check, yes sir.

i love uchicago =)

I forgot my username and password… what in the world do i do??? Admissions office is CLOSED TILL TOMORO!! AHHAHAHAHAHA

To dbear: I hate uchicago

I heard that Chicago will not look at the SAT II scores even if we sent them
Is that true?
I know that SAT II is not required. But will that admission staff consider that if we send it?
THX~

I have the same question about SAT II scores as Evolitak, but I’m also curious as to why clicking on the link to page 42 takes me to page 41.

UChicago admissions counselors WILL look at SAT II scores if you send them, but you will not be penalized for not sending SAT IIs.

I’ve looked at your website and all, but please do tell why you personally think the University of Chicago is different from other schools.

My son recently received a “personal invitation” to apply to the U of Chicago. What triggers such a mailing? Are these letters really just attempts to up the number of applicants so that acceptance percentages can be reduced? I hear that colleges concerned with rankings use this tactic to move up the charts.

Forgive my skepticism, I am just curious.

^^ Probably… but if you check out Chicago’s admissions statistics, you can ballpark how viable admission is for your son. Forgive the cheap shot, but Chicago is a great school, and if this invitation piqued your son’s interest, it’s only a good thing!
