Watch out, it's an admissions counselor!

As I was working on my RD applications today I realized more than half of what I put in the Additional Info section got cut off. Is it okay if the resubmit it by emailing admissions or something?

I know it was really stupid of me not to check it before submitting but I figured since I was within the character limit, I was okay >.<

thanks! and by regional counselor do you mean my high school counselor (she’s already told me journalism is considered an academic subject at my school) or a uchicago regional counselor?

I’d double-check with your UChicago regional counselor for your area, just to make sure.

There’s no link on the Common App website for U chicago supplement. Is it only the essay questions on the main U of Chicago website?

Hi,

I was wondering if language recommendations were allowed? There is nothing about it on your website, but there appears to be buzz on this forum that they aren’t. Also, I am an IB Diploma Candidate and was wondering if I would be allowed to use my Theory of Knowledge teacher as one of my teacher recommendations? Also, at my school we have our own ‘house’ system where our homeroom is comprised of people in our house from different grades. My homeroom teacher taught me English in grade 10 (when I came to this particular school). Since then I have worked really closely with her on extra curricular such as the student magazine and starting a student book club. Would a recommendation from her be appropriate? What if my second recommendation was from a different English teacher?

You should email your regional counselor and have him/her help you decide.

Hi Ms. Pearson,

I was wondering if the optional essay could count against an applicant. I took time on the other essays, but the optional is so so. Would it have been better that I didn’t write it at all?

often when colleges say “optional” they may be testing your interest in the school. really no college essay is optional to the admissions office or to the applicant, in the sense that the admissions peeps want to have the most willing candidates who write everything possible and the applicant should want to express themselves in every way possible…sorry its my opinion that you should have done it well

Actually, after reading it again (a month after submitting it) I don’t feel bad about it at all. I think it was just the stress and last minute fussing over details that made me feel that way!

Hello,
I am one of EA applicant, who is anxious to hear about the EA results.
When would it come out, and how can I check it?
Only through mails? or Is there a site in UC website that I can constantly check?

Hi lovely bloggers,

When will early action decisions be available? Today, December 15, 2008! You will receive an email informing you that your decisions may be viewed on your account on the College Admissions website. If, for some reason, you do not receive this email and you have never logged in before, your user name is the email address you used on your Common Application, and you can look up your password by clicking “Forgot your password?”*

so im assuming that it will also be posted on tuesday dec. 15, 2009 at around 4? (idk im assuming) and if u wanna check you have to go to the college admissions website and log in after u check ur email…

UChicagoPSAC : My son is accepted by UChicago. And we received the letter that we are ineligible for need-based financial aid. What’s the qualification for the Merit scholarships? How many students will receive the scholarships? Any full-ride? full tuition?

@Kl-mom: the only qualification for merit scholarships is checking the box indicating your interest in merit scholarships on the application; no separate applications or qualifications are necessary. We offer 1/3 tuition scholarships (approx. $10k/year) to about 100 students and full tuition scholarships to about 30 students per year. Merit scholarship decisions will go out with RD decisions, so, as an EA student, if your son receives a scholarship, he will be notified vie snail mail when decisions go out for that round.

Hi,
For the teacher recommendations for UChicago, do you weight them any less if the teacher hasn’t known the applicant for a long time? For example, one of my senior year teachers[who favors me] writing the rec who has only known me for 2 months vs my junior year teacher [who doesn’t like me as well] who has known me for a year. Thanks!

@ilikebananas- if you feel that your senior year teacher has a better grasp on you as a student and your performance in class/eventual goals than your other teacher, you may feel free to send in that recommendation.

hey grace two quick questions on essays

Is it ok to have an image in the extended essay? I’m telling a story and the picture (b&w) is kind of essential so…
AND

how does uchicago feel about using the common app additional info section for a snappy essay? some schools have said they welcome it but i haven’t heard back from my regional counselor yet. is it too much?

thanks a lot
Confused92 is online now

hi

I have sent out an additional letter of recommendation before I submitted my app online and I believe it is probably the first piece of my app materials arrived in the admissions office, may I ask if there is a way that I can check if the AO has received it and was a file for me already created the moment they received any part of my application?

Thank you very much!
