Watch out, it's an admissions counselor!

Consider yourself absolved of your grammatical sins, idad.

Correct grammar is a pet peeve of mine, as well, idad. You should see the pained expression that comes over my face when I receive e-mails from some of my acquaintances. :p

So I wouldn't be hurt if I only send ACT scores, right? Because my ACT scores are much higher than my SATs.

me.duh let me elaborate...that sucks since I scored highest on writing.

C'mon Libby. Put in a good word for those of us that are mathematically challenged but masters of writing. :)

My S only took the ACT, and accordingly, only submitted ACT scores. If we are reading Libby's posts correctly, it should be fine, especially since not a great deal of emphasis is placed on test scores in the first place.

Perhaps the high score in writing predicts great essays. If it doesn't, then perhaps the University is correct in ignoring them...

My writing score was the highest, and I think it reflects the quality of my writing... :-)

Libby,

One more question please and I'll leave you alone for awhile. Someone asked this on another thread, and I told them what I had learned from College Confidential, but I'd like your opinion. For community college students, is it really that big of a deal to get the Associates degree? Is it going to have any sort of positive effect on being admitted at all? Like I said in a previous post, I've had to take some higher level courses that wouldn't apply to my AA, but my counselor has encouraged me to get the AA anyways. To do so, I will have about 67 credits and many classes that I take during my last semester will be complete rubbish (among them, kinesiology). So what's your take on getting an AA at a community college?

Libby,

I am taking two college classes this summer. Should I just put my grades and classes in the additional information section, or would you like me to send an official transcript as well?

Libby,

Where should I eat lunch today? I'm feeling like something light, but most places have terrible salads! I simply cannot abide limp lettuce.

Thanks.

Libby,

Do you think if I buy an mocha skirt, it will bring out my eyes, as well as my thighs?

A Thousand Thanks

I would hope a mocha skirt wouldn't "bring out" your eyes, since I would have to readjust my view of reality and skirts. I'd suggest going with a nice lavender and saving yourself the torture of having your eyes torn out of your skull...but that's just me.

As for your thighs, there's no way you're going to cover those babies up.

...I hope all of you are in UChi or will get in to UChi, because you're the weirdest bunch of people I've ever not met...

We'd get along great.

I agree completely...I really hope I don't have to go to one of the other schools on my list. I'd be dead inside for about a semester.

Another question for Libby:

One of my teachers for a college class I'm taking is an alumna, and I really want her to write me a supplemental rec. I'm going to give her the official rec form, but does she need to send it herself or can I take it and send it in with my own stuff, since I won't be seeing her again? If I have already sent in the basic information form can I just have her send/e-mail it now even though my application won't be ready for awhile? Also, are 2 supp recs too much? I was already planning to send one from my French teacher before I took my summer class.

hey libby

I come from Vancouver, and wow you are gonna be my regional admission officer. haha, do you know if I will get a interview based on my location? Also, how does U-Chicago view IB program? What's a safe score out of 45?

Libby,

Since you haven't answered my question yet, I'm forced to add another. :) Here's a strange situation...my new grandma (papa married him a new lady, I guess that's what you'd call it) has one brother who was a professor at Chicago. Should I put that in the area where it says "family members who attended Chicago" or is that not technically family. I mean, I guess he is, but it's way out there on the family tree.

writonthetransom, we want transcripts from every institution you have attended since you've been a high school student. You should have your teacder send it herself, separately, and it will be filed correctly. Two supplemental recommendations are not too much.

mz16, we love IB! I'll be coming out to Vancouver this fall. I'm trying to set up a place for an evening information session.

brand_182... mention it... I guess. It would make more sense to mention it if you've talked extensively with this person about Chicago.

Ok, guys, I'm going to the Amazon Rain Forest next week. I'll be recruiting by canoe, kind of like what Austin did on a bike in Iowa last month. So I won't be here to answer questions. I'll be back on August 13.

Fill out the Basic Information Form. Email your counselor. Visit campus.

Libby - could you also answer my question in post #107? thanks

Edit: and have a good trip

this is a "dear libby" post. I love it...
