Anyone wear a watch? I know that you can always tell the time with cell phones, but it seems like a watch adds a certain level of sophistication and class. If you have a watch, do you generally get good responses from people? Are they considered pretentious?

Watches are pretty much jewelry for men. It is a status symbol. Especially if you’re talking about rolexs or omegas. No high schooler should have one of these anyways

I have a Tag Heuer Carerra and generally people like it a lot.

lol I don’t have a cell phone, but I find watches annoying and uncomfortable, and they have like no clocks on campus!!!

I think I might need to get a pocket watch or something

imo a nice watch is generally one of the least pretentious luxuries. I mean, unless it’s encrusted with diamonds or you go around showing it off it should blend in pretty well.

^^^I know plenty of high schoolers with nice watches… and honestly, most watches are less expensive than, say, cars. Should high schoolers not have those either? It’s just a gift [i doubt many high schoolers could buy their own rolex].

^^ You don’t have a cell phone? D:

I used to wear a watch, but I didn’t want to get a tan. There was a period over the summer when I always wore a sports timer around my neck. I bought it on sale at Target. It told time and had an alarm too. lol I annoyed the hell out of my friends.

Do you guys wear your watches on your left wrist or right? Is the head on the same side as the back of your hand or your palm?

^^^Omg, a pocket watch would go great with my monocle.

^^You just compared a car to a watch?

^The former for both questions.

I always wear a watch. It is purely functional, however.

My English teacher wore her watch on her palm side

Of course watches are important, what happens if you need to know the time while on the phone?! Gasp!

I wear a watch every day. If I don’t, I look at my wrist a million times a day and then slap my wrist out of habit. I own about 6 or 7 watches, all of them cheap but quirky.

Nice…
I enjoy wearing watches, although they do get uncomfortable sometimes outside on warm days (wrist expands). Watches seem more efficient than using a cell phone (even if just by a little bit). I don’t feel they are seen as pretentious, unless you try to make people notice your watch or wear a ridiculously “bling” watch.

usually guys wear watches…i don’t…

i think you can find cheaper watches at Swatch…since it’s more age apporpriate for teenage guys, right? [i think…?].

I agree with Izzy’s comparsion of cars and watches. Why can’t a high schooler have an expensive watch when plenty have cars (many of which are inexpensive, but still more than a nice watch)

^^^ Whan!!!1

HAI! Yeah, I’m sort of back

Question: when does Stanford start school?? My friend that’s going there is apparently in Maine right now :O

awww yeah, rock it like it’s November 2009

Orientation starts Sept 14. Haha (s)he’s in maine?

Exactly! hahaha

yeah lol. I guess Stanford starts late

I wear a watch. All efficient guys do.

Friend #1: “What time is it?”

Several Other Friends: start fumbling for cell phones

Me: “It’s 7:08.”

Other Friends: “No fair… Well, at least our clocks are satellite updated! We’re more sure that it’s 7:08 than you are.”

And yes, this has happened almost exactly like that.

One strange thing I do: I wear my watch on the underside of my wrist, instead of the top. It gets dinged less often, and when my hand is down by my side I can glance at the time without moving.

I need to get a watch battery for my watch. I love it. I wear them.

It pains me to see guys wearing them on their right wrist.

Platinum Rolex, what up?
