My school administered a free ACT test to students, but I think I did really poorly on it. Is there a way I can cancel it? I know I can just not send some scores in, but some of the universities I want to go to require ALL tests to be sent in.
Also, could I have just not taken the test in the first place? It seemed like I was being forced to take it since the school paid for it, but I had a really important competition to study for, and taking the ACT when I wasn’t ready was the last thing I wanted to do, even more so since I already took the SAT, and I was going to send that score in instead.
Also, if I retake, how bad will that look to universities like MIT?
ACT allows you to cancel a national test even after receiving scores but not a state mandated test. Those state tests are given for use by the high schools in the state to meet requirements under No Child Left Behind laws. Whether you had to take the test depends on your particular state but those I am aware of require you to take the test absent a valid excuse such as an illness on the test date.
If you submit both an SAT and ACT, MIT, like other colleges, uses to determine admission that test it believes has the better score and does not use the socres of the other test against you. Moreover, MIT does not require you to send all scores.
