<p>“I have often wondered if, in their search for diamonds in the rough, they pass up diamonds that are well-polished, well-displayed and ready to be picked. I figure the logic would be, those polished diamonds will be picked up by someone or the other.”</p>
<p>I think that’s exactly the logic. It also is the reality for us alumni interviewers. Knowing the crushing odds, I logically expect everyone of my students to be rejected, every year (even though I’m definitely involved and advocated appropriately). Now I know some will be accepted here and there – but I’m also certain that these students will go on to have spectacular college careers, Yale or not.</p>
