We haven't received financial aid decision yet..

This is my D's second year for college and they haven't sent us any letter yet. I kept on Emailing to Finaid office asked about it, but they always said that they haven't finished it yet and they will notify us asap.... Last year, we received financial aid package before school started. Right now all we can do is just waiting for the letter, but I just want to know if this is "always -happened- things" or not ? They supposed to mail out in mid July. I don't understand why they 're taking so long and they don't notify us until we asked them.
Most college is like this...?

No, I don’t think it’s typical. I’ve never heard of it this late before, but maybe others here have. So, I assume your daughter has already started classes for the term. Is that right?

Get on the phone. I don’t care how much money it costs to do so.BUT before you do so, make sure your daughter has signed the proper releases so that the finaid folks will talk to you. Otherwise…they won’t. Did you complete ALL of the necessary financial aid forms on time?? Also, did your daughter check her online info from the college? Some schools are ONLY sending financial aid for returning students to the students via email. E.g. our daughter received her financial aid award in July (returning student) and accepted it. BUT we (the parents) didn’t get ANYTHING about it…nada. No letter, no email. This stuff goes to the kids. So…you need to make sure your DD didn’t receive this electronically.

Has your child received a bill from the college? Very often there are credits noted for financial aid on that too. Your first bill should have been due LONG before school started for a returning student.

I work in a financial aid office & we do have students who do not yet have their packages. The vast majority do not have packages because the students have not turned in info we requested. Quite a few are because the parents filed taxes incorrectly (married & both filing head of household, for example) - they have to file amended returns before we can proceed. Still others are because they have given us info that caused us to need more info - and they didn’t pay attention after they gave us the basic info we requested. Still others sent their FAFSA to the wrong campus (med or law school).

I will say, though, that there are some students who didn’t get packaged for other reasons. Sometimes there are issues with name, social security number, or … sometimes it just gets overlooked by the computer system (still am not sure how it happens, but it does!).

In our office, email is a good way to communicate. Another good method is to ask for a manager.

With my youngest daughter’s college, we only got answers when we actually walked into the FA office. We sat on hold on the phone and emails were not answered correctly (I don’t think they were even read).

Ours came very, very late this year, too. It was a mess. If you could go in, that would be ideal. Otherwise, stay on the phone until you actually talk to a person to find out if anything is missing.

Everyone, thank you for your comments. I sent all documents very early and I checked TO-DO LIST which her school provided on line, and it said we have nothing to do.
Also I have my D check her Email from Financial aid office very often, but no Email from them.I kept on sending (onece a month)an Email, but I always got same answer…
Her friends got a package long time ago…last year we have received a letter on time(maybe because she is an ED freshman). Our family situation is complicated, so as kelsmom said, they might take longer than others, i guess.
And yes, mythmom, actually I will visit her school next week, so I will stop by FA office.
Since I have been wondering why why …for a long time, now I am so encouraged, Thank you for your suggestion!
