hey guys, i've just "discovered" vassar and i've heard that it's absolutely gorgeous and an amazing LAC. i've just got a couple questions:

1) exactly how prestigious is it?
2) where does it rank among other top colleges?
3) what are the admissions rates into top 10 or top 15 medical and business schools?
4) how is their med and business department?

i'm probably visiting next week and so far i love it but i'm worried about placement rates among top grad schools since i've talked to a few people and some of them have never heard of it. anyway, thanks for any info!

Vassar is ranked 13 amoung LACs according to US NEws.

thanks but do you know if there was such a list combined with top colleges where it would be?

you mean if there were a list with LACs and universities combined? i dont know of any such list, and it would be hard to make one up because LACs like vassar and universities like harvard stress such different things. vassar is considered a top college, someone already told you it was #13, what more do you want?. you will get an excellent education there, meet a lot of fascinating people who had good grades and sats in high school (not that that should matter so much), and the people who matter (employers, grad schools) will know the value of your education. you seem overly concerned with prestige.

thanks for the info.

and yes i am concerned with prestige since i plan on going to either stanford or yale for med school but with the whole history of how hard it is to get in i wasn't sure what kind of placement vassar had.

still, it seems like a great school and i never once doubted that. it's now probably one of my top choices.

a lot of gays go to vassar

well, vassar is one of the seven sisters, which were established to give women an opportunity for ivy league-level education. so in essence vassar (now coed) is an ivy league education at the liberal arts college level.
lots of people plan on going to stanford or yale for grad school. it's good to have ambitions, and vassar will certainly help you get there, but recognize that even going to stanford or yale for undergrad doesnt guarantee you a spot in prestigious graduate programs.

scarf thanks for the info. i didn't know that but thats cool. neway, do you have any exact numbers?

what do you want numbers for...

I've only heard good things about Vassar. I don't know specifically about their Pre-med program though.

Vassar is a great school with great placement. I'd equate it overall with Emory, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, etc in terms of overall reputation; but its a LAC of course.

I'm not so thrilled by my phone experiences with Vassar...I dropped it from my list because of that.

I dunno, maybe I was having a bad few months, but the admissions office at the college was a little snobby, as was the representative that came out to the Northwest.

The campus is beautiful, although it seemed a little balkanized to me, when I visited. Definitely a progressive school.

IB.
