Schools similar to Vassar

Anyone? I would like to hear about LACs, preferably with open or loose curriculums, or small universities. Anything would be great. Vassar is my top choice right now (I'm a junior).

Sarah Lawrence College

Is Sarah Lawrence all women? I'm not ruling anything out, but I already have a very limited school social life (<100 kids in the whole thing) and I want to meet a lot of new guys and girls.

Thanks for the tip, Drew - I'll check it out.

It's coeducational, but I think the m:f ratio is like 3-7

Check out Hamilton and Weselyan, they both do not have a core curriculum

Bard College in NY, Bennington in VT, and Skidmore in NY
Brown is another, but would be a reach school for most people.

Brown is a major reach for me. Vassar is a reach as well, at least right now. I'll definitely check these places out - I've heard good things about Hamilton, but don't know too much about it. One of my friends just visited Bard and said she didn't think I would like it. I'll look at it too. Thanks for all the info and anything else is welcome too!

what did you like about vassar besides the open curriculum?

I like the location (I heard there's good law/government internships around), happiest students, very strong academically, good size for me, east coast, etc. I basically love it right now and I think I might be able to get in. I just looked at Hamilton's site and I'm really liking the looks of it, too.

jackson,
there is nothing like Vassar :)

why, jym? I want to hear everything good!
assuming it's good.....haha

Kalamazoo College is similar to Vassar and would be more along the lines of a match or safety.

but, it has a core curriculum

bump.............

jackson-
We've talked about my experiences at Vassar on another thread. I will tell you that when I looked at colleges with my older s. the schools we visited that had a similar "feel" were Amherst and Williams. They are small, have few required courses, faculty were very warm and approachable, etc. My s. ended up at Rice, which, truth be told, has a similar feel as well, though it is a university and housed in a large city. It has no required core classes, is small and has a pretty campus (though not as pretty as Vassar).

would you happen to have the link for that thread? thanks for the info.

I believe it is a thread you started :) I'd also suggest you read the old threads on the Vassar forum in CC. Lots of good info discussed last year.

Marlboro, Reed, Hendrix, Lewis & Clark, Whitman, Swartmore, Guilford, Earlham, Grinnell, Carleton, Macalester, Oberlin...

haha i probably did start one without remembering it....i'll look around.
thanks for the other info, isle.

the old threads are great, btw.
