Weak GPA, Good test scores/ECs - Chances at Top Schools [Will Chance Back]

What is necoposting?

When did 720 CR become a median CR?

Redroses, I think you should seriously stop chancing.
So far, I have only heard negative opinions from you.

Would you want to know my stats, so you can stop discouraging others to apply?

I am here to accentuate your extracurriculars show demonstrated passion.
Some clubs are rather haphazard, but you have a decent chance.

Are you planning on retaking your SAT?

Well… I used to think she was a bit bitter but now I do see the pragmatism behind her statements. His GPA is low. But I wouldn’t say his SAT scores are “median.” They’re quite good.

Holy crud. I thought for a second that facebook’s stats were exactly the same as billabongboy and that he/she was trying to get a chance inside another chance thread…
I believe billabongboy meant “necroposting”, which is pretty much bringing a thread back from the dead.

It’s all in the title. I’m from a medium sized (1,600 kids total) competitive public NJ high school that offers 10 or so APs and sends a plethora of kids to HYPMS each year.
^So that is our first piece of textual evidence.

Now what?

We check his ranking system. 3.75 is not bad at all, if that puts you in top 10% of your class.

Redroses- If I recall correctly, you claimed that there is some “secret” method/formula that the Ivies use to find someone’s rank even though rank is not given on the common application? Why do I sense a blatant hypocrisy in your posts?

@facebook It’s when you post on a thread that has not been posted on for a while.

And I don’t for SAT reasoning, but I’m doing more SAT 2s in October

@stoompy312 From what I’ve learned I am around top 10% of my class.

His name is Shmeric Wang and he attends West Windsor-Plainsboro High School which is ridiculously competitive.

Haha, “necro” posting.
I got it.

See, you belong to the top 10% of your class! Now check your Naviance scatterplot.

Eric Hyun Jae Cheon went to Cornell from your school.

Diana Chen went to MIT. Wait do you go to south or north?

@shawnwhite313 I think you might be exaggerating the competitiveness of my school; it’s not really “ridiculously competitive”.

@facebook
A few former-Ivy League admissions officers have written books as to the process of selection for competitive applicants (those that do not get thrown out immediately). There are apparently several methods of estimating a students’ rank of within a decile. I know one such book is called “A for Admission”, which among other bits and pieces, has a highly detailed explanation of the process colleges take to get that last piece of information, of course not for just anyone, but those who seem like they could end up being accepted.
That being said, I will not chance billabongboy simply because he/she probably has a better idea of his/her chances than I do.

During the 1992-93 school year, West Windsor-Plainsboro High School was awarded the Blue Ribbon School Award of Excellence by the United States Department of Education[3], the highest award an American school can receive.[4][5]

The school was the 21st-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine’s September 2008 cover story on the state’s Top Public High Schools. The school was ranked 9th in the magazine’s September 2006 issue, which included 316 schools across the state.[6] The school was ranked 5th in the 2004 issue. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North was ranked 1st during the same year.

In 2005, the school had the second highest average SAT score in New Jersey.

That being said, I will not chance billabongboy simply because he/she probably has a better idea of his/her chances than I do.
^ Please clarify?

Yes, JAT. I know Hernandez.

Hernandez annoys me. Her book is riddled with hypocrisy. She mentions potential candidates with 600 range SAT scores and says that they are in relatively good standing and then says minority applicants with 500s are excused for their 500s because they’re minorities. And then she has that Academic Index chart stuff which is ridiculous because given those scores you’d be like a 2 or 3.

My AI is an 238, so I am not worrying about that.
But isn’t that for athletes??

Our school has gotten the same award many, many years now. We don’t really do too well regardless. However, as far as our rankings go, we were top 500 in Newsweek several years ago.
As to my refusal to chance, I do see myself as one of the more junior and uninformed chancers on these forums. I am quite willing to chance most people, but not those who have demonstrated a greater capability in chancing. By the way, do you all know each other or something?

I honestly think the whole thing is effed up. I don’t believe in/agree with AI. How do you have a 238? Is that possible?

Shmeric Wang. Deric Hang. Larick Gang. Teric Zang.

Ha ha. That’s what I was wondering. I just “calculated my academic index” and got a 228, which to me was a big *** blanket given the apparent inflation of that indicator.
