Ever since I've come to college, I couldn't help but notice that there are cliques made up of entirely kids from ostensibly wealthy families. They all went to expensive private schools (almost always in New York, Boston, or L.A.) and that seems to be a prerequisite to be in that clique.

I was wondering how common this is, and I was wondering how these people all got together. Do they actively seek out people with the "right credentials"?

PS I go to a college in New England, which is probably the most class-conscious part of the United States.

Im sure. it happens there is nothing that can be done. it happened at my highscnool and im sure it won’t end.

not everyone is like that though. seek out the people who care about more than class

I noticed it when I was at BU, but at my current school, not too many of us are wealthy, so it’s a non-issue.

There are cliques for everything…sports activities, ethnic background, where you grew up, how much money your parents have, etc. I went to school with a guy who complained about how Asian students would come to the USA from overseas and only hang out with students from their home country. The simple truth is that when you go somewhere that is unfamiliar to you, you will seek out people and places that make you feel comfortable.
