Weather and clothing

i’m from Florida and i don’t know what i’ll need to wear during fall and winter at AU!! how cold is it? is it rainy, windy , cloudy etc…? is it really bad?

The weather’s not bad up here. You have four seasons. It will be hot and humid in the summer. In September, it will still be warm and humid. Fall and spring are similar - warmish to coolish (or the opposite for spring), sometimes rainy but nothing out of the ordinary. There is little snow… you might see one or two inches in the winter. November/December are cold, like 30-40. January/February are miserable (think 20-30). It seldom gets warmer than 95 or colder than 20, but it does happen a few times per year.

I would bring a couple of good hoodies, one really warm winter coat (make sure it will last all four years - you won’t use it that often if you layer), boots/all weather shoes for the rain, and a good (lightweight - you can layer underneath in the winter!) rain coat. Most people layer, so you won’t need a lot, just a couple of hoodies along with the rest of your clothes. I’m not sure if you’re male or female, but if you’re female, bring a pair of warm leggings to wear under your jeans in the winter. It may not get that cold, but if you’re outside all day (like for the inauguration or any of the other events that go on outside in DC), you’re going to want some extra warmth.

P.S. - I live about an hour and a half out from DC, and that’s the weather here.

thank you very much! do you know some good stores in DC where i can buy my fall/winter clothes…?

If you shop in DC, it’s going to be very expensive. You might be able to take the green line all the way out to shop in Tyson’s Corner, but again, it’s going to be quite expensive and I have no idea how easy Tyson’s Corner is to get to after you get off the metro.

zuitar - shop online. Easier, faster, cheaper b/c applicannot is right - its very expensive in the DC area.
 20-30 in the winter sounds great. In our area, winter means single digits to well below zero plus wind and several feet of snow…
