Wife and daughter en route to Columbus/Westerville via Dallas and St. Louis this evening. Audition Saturday with pretty full day on Friday for class/campus/department visit.

The weather report looks a little rough. Does Otterbein usually have classes in this type of weather? Thanks.

Just want to wish your D break a leg wishes, arrdad.

I can’t answer about Otterbein but typically most colleges don’t tend to have snow days very often, like K-12 schools do. There are no school busses to worry about. Faculty have to get to campus but most students are already there. Also, in winter climates, poor weather is a way of life. :D

Yes. It is very unusual to cancel class at Otterbein. My daughter is in the BFA program. I just spoke to her and she said it was snowing hard. Then I looked at the radar online and it appeared to be possibly moving out of the Columbus area.
At any rate, I’m sure that whatever happens with the weather, the MT and Dance staff (plus the wonderful Teri Devlin in admissions) will do everything possible to make the visit a good one. Good luck to your daughter!!

Thanks MTMomma for the local report. And thanks to our friend soozie for the well wishes. Glad to hear that weather doesn’t typically cause school closing. I realized after posting that it was probably a silly question.

My wife and daughter just called from Westerville saying how pretty everything is with the snow cover. Please forgive this desert dweller for worrying unnecessarily.

It was not a silly question at all.
I remember going through this process having all kinds of questions and some worries, including weather while traveling.
That’s one of the good things about this site - you can ask any question you need to.

I would say it is definitely not a silly question. UC - just 100 miles south of Otterbien DID close on Thursday afternoon and part of Fridat morning. Unlike the real north and northeast, Ohio seems to not deal with snow well.

I hope you are staying warm in Columbus, because we are at record lows down here.

Wife and daughter made it back from Otterbein, with no serious weather-related issues. They were very impressed with the program and the people. Doctorjohn is apparently a real live version of the guy he plays on this forum, as he was very informative and easy to audition/interview with.

My daughter especially liked how Otterbein auditions by groups, as you get to watch other kids audition. It helped her with perspective. She said that most of the kids were talented, and a few were super-talented. More girls than guys auditioning, as always. Easy to see why they have so many trying for so few spots.

My son and I were at the Otterbein audition yesterday too! We had a great time and were very impressed. My son enjoyed auditioning as a group too and said that there were a lot of very talented kids. He said that everyone there made him feel very comfortable. He loved the school!
