Web presence.

I have a significant Internet presence using my real name. My first and last name pull up over 500 hits, all me.

Is it likely that a college will google me, and if they do, will they care what they find?

For the record, I've got nothing embarrassing, besides the incoherent and self-appalling rantings of a 7th grade me, 8th grade me, and 9th grade me. 10th grade me wasn't too bad. 11th grade me is downright ok, but still.

Am I making a bigger deal of this than I should?

For the record, I plan on going through all 500ish hits now so they'll expire from the google cache. Is this overkill?

Update:

Google said it was 500 links. It may be when it counts all the different pages, but apparently it's only three pages of Google results. phwew

My question still stands, however.

I think a lot of people are in google.
I am too. All this crap about soccer comes up.

Just hope that nothing about you is embarrassing in a bad way. You know...any sexual related content, etc.
But, what makes you think out of all the thousands of applicants that are looked over, they are going to pin point you out and google you?
Sounds like a fairy tale. You're fine.

It all depends. At many smaller schools a local adcom rep must defend you in front of an admissions committee. I would Google if I were them.

In another thread an alum interviewer said she Googles all of her interviewees beforehand.

If you applying a school with a very large applicant pool, you are probably OK.

Why chance it and you'd hate wondering ... what if...?
