Webcams

Are freshman allowed to have webcams on their computers?

This has been asked before, but I'm still not 100% sure on the answer. I've never seen anyone with a webcam at USAFA, so I'm going to say the answer is no, but I'll get back to you on this one...

thanks, I'd really like to know

the guy I stayed with during orientation had a roomate who was using a webcam while I was there.

was he a four dig?

man i hope we can, the girl just bought one too... ;)

doesn't matter if he was or wasn't...we went after recognition...

(I don't know the rules, but I'm just saying, he wasn't as restricted at the time) :D

yes he was a four dig

I just checked the Sight Picture, and here's what it has to say:

4.14.2. Modems/Facsimile Devices/Computer Phones. Cadets shall not install mechanisms to their computers as a means of making video or voice calls, sending or receiving messages, or connecting to networks or online resources other than USAFANet.

Technically then, it's not allowed. That's not to say it never happens, but if you're going to bend the rules, Comm Squad probably isn't the best choice of authority to subvert.

Must... resist... temptation...

Gah can they make it any harder? ;)

Listen to what Petko has to say about this. My experience was two things will end an AF career really fast. 1.) getting the comm squadron on your six for doing something stupid using the internet or other computer resource, and 2.) Misuse of that government credit card you will all get when you go somewhere. They are real deal breakers.

If the Academy changes things ( I seriously doubt they will soon) the C-Store will be pushing them out like candy, and they are relatively cheap. Keep in mind everyone has a cell phone these days and cadets in the first year still find ways to get in trouble with those.
