Webguy!

I have no idea what all of you are talking about concerning squadrons, etc. Can you help me out? If my son is in J in basic, will he be in J during the academic year? Is there a link to a description of the squadrons. I thought there were only ten.

<a href="http://usafaclasses.org/2011/FAQs-Squadrons.html%5B/url%5D">http://usafaclasses.org/2011/FAQs-Squadrons.html</a></p>

Here is the only link I have seen. Hope this helps a bit, its all I know.

Yes! Thanks so much.

Yes, thanks for the chart! The host Lt Col had told me that Son would be in 24 in the academic year and I was not sure how that matched with BCT. So now Flying Tigers - D - Phantoms.

Thanks also to eagle and hornet for mail info. Everyone I have talked to lately has sent one or two letters. Just wondering if S is getting to read them yet.

Hi Kelcie's mom - seems like we were just at the orientation dinner. ;)

Hi Falcon's Mom- Yeah this little bit of time before basic sure was hectic, made the time fly by. With Graduation ,parties, preparing for basic, it does seem so surreal now.

Hi falcons11. My son is also in Flying Tigers, Flight D, Phantoms

Hi jwags! Yeah Flying Tigers - D, doesn't that make us like family for the next year.<g> </g>

I hope the guys were outside today when the Phantoms flew over for General Olds memorial:

It would have been something cool to see.

My friend was part of the funeral ceremonies for General Olds. I hope she gets some pics/movies of the stuff!

Hey 2010s,

Son and I were discussing Gen Olds before BCT. Son had watched him on the "Dog-Fights" series. We thought Gen Olds would make a great exemplar for 2011. Who decides that?

During freshman year, the elected class council will put together an exemplar committee, which will research candidates. Late in the year, somewhere close to Recognition, the committee will make a presentation to the class and provide a number of different choices.

(Some of ours included the Wright brothers, Gen. Tibbets, (the pilot who dropped the atmoic bomb on Hiroshima) Lt. Col Gabreski, (one of the few men to get a plane in the air at Pearl Harbor) and, of course, Lt. Frank Luke, the "Arizona Balloon Duster" and our chosen exemplar.)

The class will then vote as a whole. When they complete Recognition, they will find out who their exemplar is.

This is how it worked for us, at any rate.

Thanks for the info G4C, just wondering about it and knew that you would know. What would we do without you 2010 guys???

This is too funny. I've been searching and scouring the pics for the last however many days and today I finally found one of son. He's being taught how to iron. I love it. I don't think that was the glamour he had in mind when he accepted his appointment. :-)

Falcons 11: check out the Gallery 34 on the AOG photos, there is a bunch of photos for F squadron.

Thanks jwags, will do! Just found son on front of Webguy - checking his mailbox. So he is getting all that mail being sent his way.

We just found a good picture of Caleb on WebGuy also studying
his knowledge from a white big booklet. You see the Basic reading from
the yellow folder and if you click the "read more" you will see
Caleb, listed as " another basic"

I'm a happy mom today. First letter from son - he sounds very good. Two pictures on line - Webguy and AOG (6578). I think the photographers spent a lot of time with Flying Tigers today.

Hope everyone gets letters today. It is wonderful!

What?!!! MAIL RECEIVED FROM A BASIC!!!!!!! Hope you live closer to AFA than me - my D was given explicit instruction to write me. She said she'd write so quick that no one else would get mail before I did!!!!

I am going to be mailman stalking tomorrow!!!

klassmom - That is a terrific picture of your son - a real classic.

Falcons'11 - Congratulations! I know you were thrilled. I, too, will be mailman stalking.

How exciting for you Falcons'11 !!!!! Cant wait to hear from our D. No pictures yet either. Hope to hear or see soon.

Thanks- at least it was not one of the pictures that I had to call
all the other 3 siblings and husband in to confirm my " wishful" thinking...LOL
I was blessed, he looked focused and as I would expect.
