Webster University

Hey Sue! I don't know if it's true, but I heard the other day that "Ace" isn't moving to NY. It's sad! Only those who saw it will know and love the amazing music. Ah. "I am free!" :o)

I could be wrong though. It's been known to happen! ha

Have a great one,
Shayla

Hey there Shayla!! A&N love you to pieces....they tell me that alllll the time!! I hope your 2nd semester is off to a brilliant start.

If this is true about "Ace" that is indeed sad. That star/sky scene made me soooo emotional....it really tugged my heart strings.

To all interested: Regarding Richard Dreyfuss' visit to Webster

The Webster Journal has a really good article detailing the master class. It tells of his love for acting. Go here: http://media.www.webujournal.com/media/storage/paper245/news/2007/02/08/Lifestyle/Webster.Has.Close.Encounter.With.Richard.Dreyfuss-2703723.shtml?sourcedomain=www.webujournal.com&MIIHost=media.collegepublisher.com

Peace!

SUE aka 5pants

Thanks for the link!

This is VERY exciting! Our son auditioned for Webster but never knew so much about it!
It sounds wonderful, and so do you!

Well, I hate to be a BIG tease, but I may have good news of another guest celebrity to visit soon. I can't say until the guest has definitely booked. I'll let you know. ;)

SUE aka 5pants

You are a big teaser!

Hi to all my Webster friends.

Barb-It looks as if our d's are going to be roomies next year!

MARIANNE

:) :) :) :)

SUE
Can't wait to hear the news behind the "teaser"!

MARIANNE
I think it's great that our d's are going to be roomies next year!

:)

I'm a senior this year and I plan on going to Webster the year after this. I have to go to a community college for academic reasons. Do you know if I would be able to transfer to Webster after next year. Do they allow that since its a conservatory?

Thanks so much. This forum has helped me out alot.

Also, I've heard that the acting department is amazing. I was wondering if the singing/vocal was just as strong.

~Zach Winter

ZachW,

I think anyone in the program would tell that, yes, the singing/vocal is just as strong as the acting. My advice to you would be to work on site reading...it is a very important aspect to training. Also, they will tell you that if you are very serious about MT to work at becoming a triple threat...through the course of your training. Dance is incredibly important even though they do not require a dance audition.

As far as transferring your credits, I am sure they may be applied to the academic portion of satisfying the BFA, but you will not be admitted at sophomore standing. You will need to begin as a freshman...which anyone who has gone through the program can tell you is paramont to success for the following years.

Take care and let us know if you need any other advice. Break a leg!

SUE aka 5pants

Just wanted to let you know that on Thursday 02/22/07 Webster will have a guest visitor....Cherry Jones!! She will conduct a master class! Wow!!

Just wanted to wish the new freshman and any transfers to Webster Conservatory to "break a leg" at school. Only a mere 2 weeks away!! I am not so sure where the summer went!! Hope you all had a great one and are rested, for new adventures are certainly about to come. Please keep us posted here on how it all goes. Keep the focus and all will go well!!

Best wishes,

SUE aka 5pants

I certainly should not have forgotten to include the upperclassmen in that wish for a broken leg!! Hope you all have a wonderful year!

SUE

Yes, where did the summer go? I know my D is very excited to be returning and meeting the Freshman and new faculty members. It's so much easier for me this time around then last year. She is so ready to be back!

Well, the first week of school at Webster is nearly finished. Hoping to get this thread going again...any questions, comments, please feel free to jump in. As my guys go through their senior year I hope to add some new material detailing the final year and progressing to showcases.

MT CC thread has a lot to offer those students who are researching schools to audition for, but unfortunately once they get situated into their programs little more is added. Call me a diehard I guess, or perhaps perpetually suspended in time? ee-gads, nah!...I'm just one to follow through to the end I guess. ;)

SUE aka 5pants

Sue,

Great timing. I was just "talking" about you tonight....LOL...don't worry. I have a client who is interested in applying to Webster and I wrote her to contact you (and through you, maybe your boys). I don't personally know anyone who attends Webster but always think it is VERY helpful to talk to current students when trying to explore a college more deeply.

I, for one, am grateful that posters like you stay on to not only share your wisdom and experiences, but to share what it is like once the kids are IN these programs. Many leave CC once they or their kids are IN college but it is so helpful for prospies to hear from those with experience at the programs. Further, for long time posters, like myself, it is enjoyable to read of follow up happenings to kids we have followed all these years from applying to college, in college and then ? So, keep it coming...and THANKS.

Best to your boys with their senior year! (I've got a senior too, but not my D who is in MT....and we are up to the next admissions cycle...grad school applications!)
Susan

Well, Susan, that's great! I hope I can help...it's been awhile since the audition process for admissions, but if I'm uncertain about answering a question I will pass the info on.

Perhaps our kids will meet up one day.....just think my Ss may be living in NYC in just another year. Guess it actually will depend on how showcases go and their financial situation, but that is the way they are currently leaning.

Quite candidly, I find myself not reading every thread on CC like I use to...but I can't bring myself to leave CC completely as others have. I know I will be asking questions in the near future...where else would I turn? :)

SUE aka 5pants

Sue, thanks for the offer. I only wrote her just tonight. But it wasn't about the audition process but just to learn more about the school/program from someone with more first hand knowledge.

Yes, the theater world is not that big and many of our kids are sure to meet up down the line. Mine is already living in NYC but I am sure everyone else will head there following their graduations. Here's to a great year ahead for everyone! Mine have not yet started school though.

I'm glad you are still here! :)

My D was just cast in her first show at Webster. She is on cloud nine! Since they could not audition as Freshman (which was a great thing) this was her first audition there. She said the audition and callback process was was so fun and a great opportunity to work with different directors. Her roommate (who's mother is also a CCer) got cast as well! Good news. Sue-I know she got to do one of her callbacks with your son. She said it was a blast! In fact that was the show she ended up getting cast in.

I also would be happy to talk to anyone about Webster. Sue (and her sons)were and continue to be such a great help to us and we would love to pass on the tradition.

Marianne

Congrats to your D, Marianne!
