Marianne!! I am so happy for your D and you as well!! How exciting!

Alex just called me to let me know how casting went...he is taking his news rather well...as he did not get cast this semester at Webster. Of course he is disappointed, but he is looking at his glass half full rather than being pesimistic. We know there is always a reason for everything and not necessary a reflection on him as an actor.

Now seeeeeee....as I was writing my last sentence, Alex just called to tell me he has an audition with the New Jewish Theatre in St. Louis for "Broadway Bound". So we will see how things go....again, this life of acting takes us down some crazy roads. It's just important to remember that when one door closes another will inevitably open.

BTW, Nathan was cast in "Tartuffe" and will also be performing in a one act at the arts festival in Forest Park in Spetember.

Congratulations Marianne....please give my best to your D!!!! I am sincerely happy for you. :) Hope to see her perform...and meet you as well!

Sue,
I will keep Alex in my thoughts and cross my fingers for Broadway Bound. He would be great in that show I would think! The one-act at Forest Park is what Josie was cast in too! We would love to go see her and then we could see Nathan too and maybe meet you. We'll see what happens with airfare. We drove her back to school and oh my goodness.... That was around 3500 miles round trip.

It certainly is a whirlwind. Josie feels so fortunate to have been cast. It's a crazy business, you just never know why certain things play out the way they do. Alex has the right attitude.
Marianne

Sue has done such an excellent job these past years with providing so much information about Webster; I'm looking forward to reading her "senior year" reports. Thank you Sue!!

As Marianne mentioned my D and hers are roommates (sophomores) who just went through the audition/callback process for the first time. I was told that it was exciting, energizing, exhausting and exhilirating; all at the same time! My daughter really enjoyed the process and is thrilled to have been cast in her first show at Webster.

It is so important for these young actors/actresses to keep the casting process in perspective; wiser, more experienced folks than I have said many times that you just never know what the casting director is looking for. A positive attitude about the outcome can make all the difference!

And now the hardwork begins: juggling classes, homework, rehearsals, crew assignments!

I am also happy to provide any information that I can regarding Webster. These Webster threads were an invaluable soursce of information when my daughter was going through the college audition/decision process.

I just wrote you a private email. You are certainly right...they certainly do learn to juggle and multi-task. It's amazing how much they can heep on their plates...thinking back however, I think sophomore year was the most challenging....so best to keep in close contact to moniter how they are doing...which I have NO doubt you will do. If I can be of any help let me know...we hope to go down more often this year as youngest has a car at his school. :)

Has anyone else noticed that Webster U. does not have its own generic forum?

My DS is about to apply to Webster as a Jazz Performance major and the level of teaching seems to be one of the best kept secrets in the US. Nobody on this website seems to know.....

no problem regarding the topic drift. I live in the MT cave of CC...I don't venture out to other forums. If I am reading your post correctly you are wondering why CC in general doesn't have it's own generic forum....is that right?

As far as the school forums in the general schools A-Z CC forums, not every college in the US has a subforum. Many of those forums were created based on having existing threads on CC about those schools and so CC filed them under their respective college sub forums. If you feel there are a lot of threads on Webster's other programs (not MT), you could request a subforum for Webster with Roger Dooley.

You seem interested in Webster for Jazz Performance. I suggest you read and participate on our Music Majors Forum which is active and on which there is a long thread on colleges for music.

hcpss, there is no "set" amount Webster takes into their Regional Acting program. It varies year to year. I am not sure of the breakdown this freshmen year for Reges, but I will try to find out for you.

I don't know how many are in Regional Acting but I would think there would be more than two.

One piece of data that doesn't break down how many in Acting vs Musical Theater (but the university does offer both programs and so that is saying something):

Wow, thank you all for your fast replies. I think Webster is definitely worth taking a look at - I believe I saw on their site (I have looked at so many I am cross-eyed) that they also encourage electives in music, which he would love to do. He is very much into music as well and has bad a hard time trying to decide which way to go, but finally decided on theater acting. So many acting programs don't allow you to take music.

My D is in the sophomore class. Their breakdown right now is 9 MT majors and 6 Acting Majors. And yes, they do encourage music electives. I know one of my D's friends is an acting major but she takes private voice lessons. You should certainly look at Webster. We love it!
