So, what is the deal with college re-calculating GPA? My school only does weighted to give credit to students who take honors classes and challenge themselves? Will colleges re-wire our GPAs to become unweighted, because that is really unfair...

Thanks for any insight!

First of all, I need a list of colleges to answer your question.

For top schools (Ivy League, top 40 colleges, etc.) the weighted GPA means very little. What most top schools do is recompute GPA on a 4.0 scale (regardless of if it’s AP, honors, or regulars) for only your core classes, which means non-core electives are not counted.

But once again, I don’t have the slightest idea where you’re applying, so I can’t be of too much help right now. :)

ivies and other schools likes amherst, washu st. louis, swarrthmore

They will your consider your unweighted GPA in the context of your class rigor and school rigor.

The reason they don’t use W GPA’s is because weighting mechanisms vary too widely between schools to be a valuable metric. (Some schools weight out of 5; others out of 6; others don’t weight at all.)

^What she said. :)
