<p>How does Stanford do this? They have to use either their own weighthing system or just use the weighted gpa the school gives (if it gives one). That much is clear, because their website states that 57% of applicants had a 4.0 or above (note the use of the word above and the fact that 57% of applicants will not realistically have a 4.0 UW), and their common data set lists their average gpa as 4.18 W. I would hope that they use their own weighting method because it puts students at schools without a weighted gpa at a disadvantage and weighted gpa is calculated in different ways at every school. Do they just use the UC weighting system? That's my guess. So would they not count +/- and cap the number of weighted courses?</p>
